Stumvik Academy
Stumvik Academy is a large university in northern Austhorn that focuses its research and teaching on astrology. Many of Kvarend's wisest teachers and ambitious students can be found within its walls.
The Academy has a unique shape and rank system. The base is a square with the entrance on the rightmost bottom edge. From there the building increases in height as it goes around, creating a spiral staircase shape, ending in a clocktower elevated above the entrance. One's rank in the academy designates which floors one is allowed to access. You are allowed to request access to books, scriptures and other material from one level above you, you study and work with those at your own level, and you typically teach those at one level below. You are not however, in any circumstance allowed physical access of any floors above your own.
This way of structuring the members of the academy certainly creates a mysterious atmosphere where the members have little knowledge of what those above know of or are currently researching, and rarely , if ever, meet those of the highest strata. In some ways, the academy itself is like the Cosmos.
Purpose / Function
Stumvik Academy was built after The Great Dragon Genocide to enable further research into the arcane, but specifically the Cosmos and the very nature of gods and magic itself. Many astrologers and wizards have had their start there, but most students stay at the academy.
Architecture
Sjølve byggningen er bygd i tung, mørkegrå stein og har eit neo-keltisk design. Byggjet er utstyrt med fire store teleskop, eit i kvart hjørne.
