Character Creation and Leveling

General

All characters receive a Feat of their choice upon character creation.   Players may opt for a stat increase or a feat whenever they receive an Ability Score Increase (ASI).   Character creation can either utilize the point buy system or the custom system described below.
  1. Roll 4d6 and drop the lowest value on the dice. Doing this six times creates one stat array.
  2. Create two stat arrays. If one of them sums to below 70 (before racial modifiers), you may replace it with another rolled array.
  3. Choose which array you would like to use and assign your stats in any order.
Once you have chosen your creation system, you cannot switch for that character; i.e. you cannot roll your two arrays, decide you don’t like either of them, and move to point buy.   If a background feature, feat, and/or character class would provide a proficiency that you already have, you may choose another one from the full list of proficiencies.

Races

All WOTC-official races and subraces are allowed, with the exception of variant human. More information about how each race in Kuspire specifically can be found in the Races section (which I will make soon sorry y’all).     Players may ignore the stat bonuses affiliated with their character’s race and instead use class-based bonuses as outlined in Gabe James’ Class Modifier Module. For races that receive more than a total of +3 to their stats, you may either use the spread given to you by the books or use the above Class Modifier Module to receive only 3 racial-based stat boosts. Any non-stat-based racial abilities (such as elves’ advantage against being charmed) are not ignored.

Spells

At the DM’s discretion, when choosing spells, you may choose to change the damage type associated with the spell, though it will count separately from the original spell. (i.e. you can take Fireball and instead make it Lightningball, but each counts as an individual spell).

Intelligence

With a higher intelligence, you should learn more. Your intelligence score without items grants you the following benefits:
INT 12+ 1 extra tool proficiency or language
INT 14+ 1 skill gains half proficiency
INT 16+ 1 extra tool proficiency or language
INT 18+ 1 skill gains half proficiency
INT 20+ 1 additional skill proficiency
In the case of Jack of All Trades, a skill with half proficiency still has the benefit applied, giving you full proficiency. If, during level up, you reach a new level of intelligence, you may immediately apply the associated benefit.
