Episode 6 - The Rift and Magical Produce
General Summary
Both adventuring parties return to their respective inns on either side of The Rift. Chief, having his fill of action, falls asleep while Darla takes full of her new found fame. By absolutely throwing a rager in the bar the night after her great victory, Darla drinks herself into a stupor and falls in and out of consciousness. Awaking with a glass of wine in her hand, Darla mosies downstairs only to retch over the balcony at the smell of rotten booze and sweat that doused the floor from the night before. Chief remains in a state of comatose in the wagon while Slem Jem on the other hand awakens from his short term poisoning. Both Slem Jem and Darla take the wagon and the animals to the stadium where they receive their compensation and tickets for a year of travel across the rift. While riding the lift to the giant port which carries metal like ships across the rift, the two Halflings locate several crates containing Veg Corp merchandise. Slem and Darla create a heinous distraction by causing a mysterious fog to shroud the vessel which breaths into life a giant goat that chases the workers around, eventually defecating on the deck. Slem Jem and Darla are able to open one of the crates, finding vegetables. Though the vegetables appear non magical, they can tell that they appear different though they can’t put their finger on how or why.
In the meantime, Beldhir and Davwyn slunk back to The Mystery Shack where they locate their contact for Pixie Dust: their captain, Chastin Welldon. Davwyn, in his own pursuit for riches and fame, is able to convince Chaston about the benefits of drugging players with performance enhancing products. Chaston agrees but is very put off by Davwyn’s very clear advances on him. Beldhir on the other hand, craftily approaches the Fleuga Flyer coach and initiates a covert conversation about Pixie Dust. Chastin agrees to provide the narcotics if Beldhir is able to steal a book with a skull on it from his “friends” dad’s place of business and give it to another contact Chastin had already hired. Beldhir agrees to acquire the book from the west side of town near a large pit of fire where they would meet Chastin's contact, a human female.
Both parts of the Halfling party are reunited in the morning and travel together towards the west side of town where they locate a dark mausoleum, made of bones. In front of the mausoleum the party watches a human sacrifice ritual after which Slem Jem once again casts a large fog over the area, allowing Darla to secretly push the priest into his own sacrificial fire. The party silently escapes into the mausoleum where they locate three shrouded individuals praying towards a large gothic like cathedral podium. Slem Jem quietly eliminates one parishioner by melting his face into skin soup while Davwyn and the human rogue named “Karen” kill the other two, striking one in the back of his head with a rock, creating a reverse skull bowl.
The party locates a secret switch at the front of the building that led into a deeper catacomb where the party encountered several wraiths, an intelligent undead creature, and a small hoard of zombies. After feeling quite exhausted from their colorful and bloody adventure, the party decides to rest inside the mausoleum’s catacombs. Slem Jem set up two five foot earthen blocks in front of either door as a form of defense but who knows what evils lie ahead? Who knows what will be done with the book of Wee Jas? And dang it…. What’s going on with all the narcolepsy in this group!
