Questhomi City

Questhomi is a bustling city east of Excabridge on the plains, with many shops and a large market. Near the centre of the city, is its prestigious stone castle, with traditional architecture, which is the home of the royal family and the castle's workers. The city is well known for its University, a major part of which is the training academy, where many who aspire to be guards or adventurers go to learn the best techniques for these fighting styles. This does not mean the town is adverse to magic, the University has some of the best wizardry professors outside Karatek Village. Moreover, many advances in the sciences, including a large focus on medicine, have been developed at the University.

Demographics

The main population of Questhomi are humans, but there is a relatively large high elf population (which results in a sizeable half-elf population too). Despite this, all races native to Kryalon are seen to live here. This city has the largest upper class population, many of which live in the castle, or have large homes elsewhere. Many of these people are highly skilled in academia or combat techniques, whereas others remain upper class due to their family's pre-existing wealth. The majority of the other cityfolk are either merchants or craftsmen who sell or trade in the market or shops.

Government

Questhomi is ruled by its royal family, and has been since its construction 3 generations ago (Christa's great-grandfather was the first king). The crowned monarch has a selection of councillors, who are now appointed by public vote (historically the royal simply chose their council members). This council constitutes the major roles required, main advisor, treasurer, trade master, armorer, and quartermaster but it seems that the armoury and barracks are going into disuse due to the war-free climate. Political debate suggests that (and Christa has agreed) that the Master of Arms may be replaced by the University headmaster, or a representative from there. Recent firing of the royal councillor by Christa may result in this new role, Head of Academia, being filled very soon.

Industry & Trade

There are many businesses who are based in Questhomi, run traditionally by humans who share Loui's views rather than Christa's. A large company associated with the city is Questhomi Stables, which trains horses, dogs, and other animals for public services and battle purposes. The city has its own farmland, but this is very limited and so import of food is required. Questhomi doesn't export many goods, but the royal craftsmen are used to provide services in exchange for the city's imports.

Infrastructure

This city is very modern, cobbled roads connect the well constructed brickwork shops and cottages. Despite the castle and university, the large furnace is one of the oldest buildings and is the site of the production of bricks for the construction and repair of the buildings.

History

One of the oldest towns, constructed before Excabridge City was finished, it has grown into the much larger city it is today.   The current King, Christa, succeeded his father Loui after his heart attack. At the instant, Loui was entertaining an orcish messenger sent by Rom'im Forma (chief of Griseaxe Village) with a peace message, due to the current tensions and racism between orcs and humans. His former council member, Jorden Eiryo, was a drow disguised as a high elf, who planted the idea that this messenger was an assassin, and had used magic to kill the late king. Despite this, an autopsy revealed it was simply a heart attack, and outside intervention helped to mend the rift between humans and orcs. Since, the meetings of Town Leaders have been more civil, and Christa and Rom'im do not share the friction that existed between Loui and Rom'im due to longstanding racism between their races.

Geography

The plains around Questhomi have wetter soils, in some places becoming marsh-like. This property results in the abundance of clay just beneath the soils, which lead to brick being a suitable building material. Despite this, the soils are easily waterlogged after a long period of rain, so flooding of these plains is probable.
