Parvicem Village

In the less dense eastern forests of Kryalon is the small village, Parvicem. The houses here are wooden, and designed for the halfling and gnome inhabitants of the village. Other races typically have larger, newer houses on the periphery of the village. The older houses are inset into the ground, so the base of the buildings are a few cm below ground level, and the displaced dirt is used to form a ridge around the base of the house to stabilise it.    A semi-annual event in Parvicem is the Feast of Falling, which occurs during the storm season. The oracles predict when storm winds will be strong enough to fell the flimsy houses, at which point villagers leave their homes with their valuables until the storm subsides to watch the village collapse. Houses are designed such that they have hinges and fold in the wind, so simply need to be folded back out after. To celebrate the survival and ingenuity of these houses, the village holds a feast, which evolved from many generations of failed collapsing houses.

Demographics

The village itself has a relatively homogenous mix of gnomes and halflings, the population has approximately 10% which are neither of these races. This 10% are mostly human or high elf, due to the proximity to Questhomi.

Government

Parvicem's government initially had 10 members, divided into 2 halves, a gnome and a halfling for each of the roles: party leader, wizard, advisor, trade, and priest. This meant that most council votes led to tied votes, so once other races moved into the village, a non-halfling, non-gnome representative is elected to be the tiebreaking 11th member, who is currently a human.

Defences

Mainly undefended physically, but as most of the townspeople are magical, anyone can relatively easily fight off mundane attackers. Buildings are also locked magically, and mostly weatherproof.

Industry & Trade

Many of the inhabitants are magic users, the physical abilities of gnomes and halflings are limited, and so their reliance on magic for construction and defence is necessary. As a result, most of the professionals here are spellcasters of some form, although not as learned as those from Questhomi University, are still capable and their experience enables younger generations to learn these skills too. The village is in a prime location for many foodstuffs, so the village attracts travellers from Questhomi for its food. However, its location is not well positioned for trade with other villages, so is limited to trade with Questhomi, but apart from stone, metals, and brick, Parvicem is mostly self-sufficient.

Infrastructure

Since the invention of collapsing houses, many of the homes have incorporated a roof door and remain collapsed year round; the bulk of the home is underground. As such, if necessary, the entire village can effectively become underground bunkers with camo roofs. However, the bunkers have wooden walls, which rot easily and since the village has limited access to waterproof materials, they have to replace the walls often.

Districts

Despite the homogenous mix of races in terms of housing across the city, many establishments are divided into two districts based on whether they are owned by gnomes or halflings. This leads to a traditional segregation across the village in terms of where the villagers work but not necessarily where they live. However, modernisation is trying to break this segregation, as are the Rayures Clan.
