The Unnatural Sorcery
Magic is not of the natural world. It was brought to this world by Gods and the natural seeping into the world from the outer dark. Because of this, the Holy One declares all magic not granted by the Suns and Himself to be heresy and a perversion of the soul.
Magic is not evil, and using magic of other schools does not make one evil. Magic does bend and break the rules of the world to work of course, and can come across as unnatural or scary. It can make plants grow where they shouldn't, raise the dead, even destroy entire towns in a fell swoop. Some even use it to contact and summons things from beyond that should not be summoned.
Because of this, Mages are connected to the Outer Realms of the world far more then others are. To become a mage one must open their mind and soul to forces outside of Krya. The benefit of this is access to the power that is magic. The negative is that you become a beacon for things not of this world, creatures from beyond that cry for your soul and beg to be let in. Many mages go insane, fewer still learn to manage the power they can now access and remain stable. Some succumb to the things in their mind, becoming possessed puppets or even exploding into a reality tear that vomits forth monstrosities. Many theorize the Empty Moon is a conduit of magic in fact, due to the similarities of its effects and wild magic, and some mages see the moon in their dreams.
