The Heresy of Blood
Magic has been around for a long time, always existing yet anathema to the world. One such magic encapsulates this the most and that is Vitamancy. Often called Blood Magic, Vitamancy is the art of channeling ones own life force into magic. This is an incredibly dangerous practice, not just because of the fact one must physically harm themselves to use it, but because it calls upon a type of magic that none truly know about.
Vitamancy is a purely Mortal magic. Unlike other types of magic, learned from things beyond space or lingering from interactions with gods, Vitamancy was created as a bridge between the mortal form and the astral magic of the universe. Because of this, it is very easy to become corrupted by Vitamancy. While safe practice and care can lead to it being simply another tool, excessive and careless use of ones physical body for magic eventually erodes one's sense of self and their humanity. Vitamancy throws away the yoke of morality for power, and only skilled mages can hold onto it.
What of martial vitamancy? Martial vitamancy, be it the esoteric Knights of Euphortia or the instinctual use of it by Thanators, Martial vitamancy avoids many of the pitfalls of pure magical vitamancy. But it does this by giving up its own power. A martial vitamancer is almost never at risk of losing themselves, but truly they do not access the full power that sacrificing ones human form gives.
