The Empty Moon
Not a god like the twin Suns, the Empty Moon is the antithesis to the paired suns. The clockwork sun and the Black sun work together to create and shepard life and balance. The Empty Moon is madness incarnate, the monstrous celestial body that invites change, destruction and mutation. Those caught in its light can find themselves driven mad, mutated, changed into things that can no longer be called human. It empowers monsters, it is theorized when the shattering occurred the light of the Empty Moon is what lured the beasts into the world from other dimensions, and when the night sky comes and the white light of the empty moon washes over the land, people best stay inside to avoid the wrath it brings with it.
While the light of the moon is dangerous, it is, much like its effects, far from consistent. Some nights the light of the moon holds little to no sway over the world. These nights are the most common. It is in fact about 3 nights a month roughly when the moon is actively dangerous to be outside during, though much like direct sunlight exposure it is recommend to limit your exposure regardless. While you are generally safe most days, repeated or constant exposure can cause minor changes in your mentality, or physicality, or weaken you to the stronger full blown effects on worse days. All people can "feel" such days, when the night takes on a palpable dread. These "dread nights" are when people are most recommended to stay indoors. Those who are changed by moon find they feel the dread less and less
It is believed the Empty Moon was once imprisoned within the core of Krya itself. That it was from that core it escaped in the time of the shattering. Because of this, there are long and dark caverns in the world that carry the effects of the empty moon, mutating and changing those exposed to it despite no direct light being shone. On an almost paradoxal level the closer one is to the moon the less effect it has on them. Those traveling in airships tend to be able to enjoy any night without harm to themselves, bathing in the moonlight as if it were a perfectly normal night.
