The Golden Pyramid

The Golden Pyramid is the home of The Holy One, Golden Emperor, Bringer of Light, and Ruler of the Golden Lands. This massive pyramid is made entirely of gold and filled with massive clockwork mechanisms in praise of the Clockwork Sun. Most pilgrims simply come to the bottom of it, to kneel and kiss and give praise to their glorious emperor who helps the clockwork sun tick endlessly in the sky. However, inside the building is a different story entirely. Only about 3 rooms exist inside of it. The throne room, where the Holy One sits to keep his sovereignty. From this throne his announcements are transmitted across the radio to his kingdom. The other room is his personal room, for while he is immortal and powerful he must still sleep. The third room is where his guards sleep when not keeping him safe in his throne room (they are mostly for show and they themselves know nothing else about the pyramid). The rest of the massive 8 story tall pyramid is a massive and endlessly complicated clockwork mechanism. No one knows what it does except The Holy One, let alone that it exists. A few stupid and foolish adventurers have found their way inside, and fewer have escaped. They tell tales of horrible nonstop ticking, symbols that are madness incarnate scribbled on the walls, and strange monsters that stalk the corridors and machining for any kind of sustenance. The most famous recounting is from the heretic Kal, a half elf who went in with a party of adventurers. Only she came back alive and she was institutionalized soon after. Her ravings were written down by a Dr. Steinsen because unlike similar fools who perished in the pyramid her recounting was undeniably detailed. She laid out every room she had visited, explained in excruciating detail the monsters that attacked her, and even had some choice words to say about the symbols on the walls. However, her rantings were never published, and as such for the majority of the populace the pyramid is a place of hope and beauty in their world that every follower of The Holy One should visit in their lifetime.
Dr. Steinsen and Kal went missing a week after her rantings were recorded. Kal was branded a heretic and Steinsen was said to have been kidnapped by her. Inquisitors search for her to this day, to the point that many still end up killed by inquisitors simply because it is believed they were related to the half elf. Kal's bounty has reached $10,000 for her head, placing her at the highest bounty for a heretic to date. Naysayers of The Holy One believe it is because her rantings are truth, and as such those who wish to see his religion torn down also hunt for her to see if she was right though she seems as determined to be hidden from them as she is from the inquisitors.
