High Lake

In central Ziamid lies one of the more fantastic geographic features in the world. A plateau was formed in a sort of triangular valley bordered on all sides by a strange range of mountains. On this plateau is a massive lake known as High Lake and the largest settlement along its shores is a small city of the same name. The city of High Lake is the jewel of Ziamid for it lies on the shores of the lake and a river that flows out of it. The industrious Lakers have spent centuries damming the river in order to harness its energy for mills of many types.
The other natural resource in abundance near the city are the countless trees that make up the thick forests that cover the hillsides and wilder areas around the lake. First and foremost High Lake is a lumber town and the vast majority of its mills are used to saw the boards that are sold across the rest of Ziamid. As High Lake has grown as a city into a prosperous town of industry it has expanded along both sides of the river that flows out of the lake and off the plateau in massive waterfalls. The Ziamidians that call the plateau home have even gone so far as to build satellite settlements along the base of the waterfalls in order to better control the flow of resources and ensure that they control both the lucrative lumber trade as well as the transport of those goods to the capital down river.
High Lake's unique geography and seemingly endless supply of natural resources have ensured that its citizens and city leaders will remain prosperous for generations to come and wield significant influence across Ziamid and perhaps someday all of Kruos.
