Eldings Ethnicity in Kruos | World Anvil

Eldings

Eldings are an ethnicity of humans that hail from the Elding Isles off the coast of Barriholm. A small number of early explorers who were part of Brombek Bairn's initial party set out from the frigid expanses of Eishin seeking respite from the cold and unwilling to stay with Bairn any longer. They sailed north, along the eastern edge of the Elemental Barrier which surrounds Dalaein and running dangerously low on supplies, managed to shipwreck on an island in the middle of the ocean. The island was tropical and teemed with life which enabled the breakaway group to settle there peacefully. Over time their descendants explored the waters around their island and discovered all seven of the small islands that make up the Elding Isles.   Today, the Eldings are most well-known for their bards. The people of the isles have a long and storied history of the most famous bards in the world. Bards who travel far and wide to tell the tales of lands which most people will never see with their own eyes. An Elding Bard is instantly recognized wherever they go as they all have a tattoo of the 7 Elding Isles on their forearms which are prominently displayed as they ply their trade on lutes and other such instruments.   People from Izea to Aridox seek to hear the tales and news brought to them by Elding Bards and, by custom, they are treated to free room and free food and drink wherever they go. It is considered incredibly unlucky to mistreat an Elding Bard and more than a few establishments have been forced out of business by a clientele not wishing to incur the wrath of the gods for frequenting a pub that had offended an Elding.   Of course, not all from the Isles are bards and some aren't even native, for it is a fine place to live. If one cannot perform then they are likely to become fishermen or tradesman as not all are fit to travel and the Eldings are a hard-working and fun loving folk wherever they call home.
