Beliefs
The Steerian gods are the ultimate combination of the Makan and Salkan Pantheons. Ostad, the god of raiding, was the founding father of the Steerians. While he may be a direct minor god from the Salkan Pantheon, he takes from and center for the Steerians. It is something incredibly blessed, and something incredibly cursed. One could say it's "blursed". Regardless, it notably borrows and changes the gods from both pantheons, but each now has a derived meaning. Unlike the Salkans and Makans, the Steerians do not believe the gods focus on them solely, save for Ostad. They believe the gods are everywhere and cover a wide variety of peoples and lands. In fact, the common perception by any Salkan is that the gods are constantly busy, and hardly have time for everyone individually. Some examples of the derivation come from Salkan's Niflir transforming to Niri, who herself is a reflection of Nara and Narawa from the Makan Pantheon. Bordur and Selkio from the Salkan Pantheon were reduced from their original redundancies into just Bordur. Some gods like Dalmor and Thierees remained mostly the same, and their origins are properly attributed to the lands of the Salkans.Founding
The Steerian Pantheon was a slow realization from the original Salkan Pantheon the Steerian people brought with them. The Steerians were groups of Salkan people who migrated to the Island of Tongiu over the course of 200 years from 400 BR to 200 BR. The vast majority of modern Steerian beliefs took root after the rise of the Makan Empire, which encouraged a thorough mixing of religious beliefs.History
For the first several centuries after their arrival in 400 BR, the Steerians bordered the Seikan clans and incorporated aspects of the Seikan religion. While the Steerians rather widely incorporated the Seikan religion, these aspects were later removed entirely after the collapse of Seikan civilization - due to the common avoidance of all things Seikan by the Kodrans, Makans, and Steerians. Shortly after the fall of the Seikans came the rise of the Makans and the Makan Pantheon. The Steerians substituted the borrowed Seikan elements with Makan ones, as they joined with the Makans in a Crusade against Seikan culture. The religiously zealous Makans welcomed these accommodations of their religion, and the Steerian adaptation is seen as a large factor to why the Makan Empire never conquered Steeria. From 60 AR to ~400 AR, the Steerian clans held the south part of the Sinan coast - just across the channel from Steeria proper. During this time, the Steerian culture and religion spread to Barakon and took root. In the 500s AR the Makan Empire took a turn on its policy of religious oppression and gradually shifted to a stance of religious tolerance. This further soothed relations with the Steerians, and saw a renaissance in theological thought on Tongiu. The Steerian Pantheon gained more legitimacy in this age, and became a permanent hallmark of the Island subcontinent. After the collapse of the Makan Empire, officially by 895 AR, the Steerian peoples began to lean more closely on their Salkan counterparts in the Pantheon. The Salkan gods began to gain more attention than the Makan gods, but things largely remained the same in the hierarchy of the Steerian Pantheon.Enforcement
The Steerians kept their religion to themselves, as it often provoked aggression from their neighbors - more so than raids. Towards the age of Makan religious tolerance, some Steerian priests and monks departed to spread their own message throughout the vast regions under the Makan Empire. The Steerian Pantheon was also strictly upheld by the rulers of Steeria's holdings on the Sinan Coast (Barakon, Southern Continent) - more so than Steeria proper ever witness. Trade was restricted until merchants and travelers were able to learn at least some of the Gods and their parables from the Steerian pantheon. In light of this event, Steerian was otherwise spread with more tolerance. The people of Steeria proper, on Tongiu, did not care as much for who followed what.
