Beliefs

Salkan gods come as blunt and harsh as a glacier moving across the oceans and land. They are split into three factions of good, neutral, and evil. Most of the gods are neutral, with Odnjyuun and Tolgedrr as the leaders of good and Pethiris and her scout Niflir the leaders of evil. The neutral gods are known to favor each side at different times of year, depending on the god. Often it is observed that Pethiris is "winning" for the duration of winter (about half the year) while Odnjyuun is favored for the duration of Spring and Summer.   The gods help the Salkans in their work in different areas - mostly pertaining to shipbuilding, fishing, and smithing. The gods are also believed to have "hidden meanings", where they have a second, less powerful, focus. It changes with each person you may ask, which gods specialize in what hidden meanings.

Founding

Salkan's founding is hardly different from other folklore origins. Stories were widely told of Salkan gods throughout the Salkan Peninsula and stretching west along the coast. There is sufficient blending with the Rhalan Pantheon, and indeed they tend to share many similarities.

History

The history of the Salkan Peninsula is about as rigid as is icy landscape. The religion was founded around 300 BR and has not faced much challenge or fluctuation of its beliefs or believers. The Salkans notably committed to a mass raid/migration to the Island of Tongiu throughout the 400s and 300s BR, which founded the Steerians and the Steerian pantheon. The Salkan belief traveled with the Steerians, but was eventually diluted and mixed into the formation of its very own religion.   Aside from the Steerian expansion of the Salkan Pantheon, the Salkans theocratically feuded with the Kholams and Mandahms to their south and the Rhalans to their west. It is said a Salkan theocrat aided in the creation of the Mandahmic peoples' ethnic religion: The Gods of Wind and Change.

Enforcement

Salkans have rarely found someone they deemed worthy who wasn't already following the Salkan Pantheon. As such, they find no cause to organize an official method of enforcement.
