History

Zemia was founded in 226 AR when the city of Fassen broke away from the Podrusan Empire upon the death of Queen Riksa I. The people of Fassen united under the military leader Zezima, for whom the country was named. Zezima was known as someone who earned his way grinding through the ranks of the military and as a layman. His domain, first the Silldom of Zemia and later the Emirate of Zemia would last for 700 years and stand toe to toe with the Zahretian caliphate as the last independent bastion.

A Wayward Son

Around 866 AR, the son of Usain Kubwa and chosen successor to the Zemian throne, Jubilani Kubwa II, left the country and forsook his titles. Not much is known of his travels, only that he either helped to start or to quell a rebellion in Alexia as well as to stop a Dresnid invasion of Cana.

Collapse of Zemia

In 984 AR, Zemia split under the inept leadership of Ayo Kubwa II.  The court factions of Zemia chose sides supporting different heirs to the Zemian throne during his reign.  Both factions secretly plotted to usurp the throne from Ayo and place their candidate as Emir, unbeknownst to each other's plans.  One faction, called the Magajis, supported Ayo's nephew Okoth Kubwa while the Ajoguns supported Abioye Lainot, descended from a Kubwa cadet branch.  The Ajoguns began their coup first by kidnapping King Ayo, causing the Magajis to declare their coup in response.  Ayo believed the Magajis were his supporters, so when his Court Martial Usianu - a secret Magaji member - rescued him from an Ajogun's palace, Ayo readily accepted Usianu's proposal to declare Okoth Kubwa as the true heir.  Ayo professed this decision publicly but then soon perished under unknown circumstances - believed to be murdered by his son whom was the previous heir.   The death of Emir Ayo Kubwa threw the realm into chaos, with every city and hold declaring their support for either the Ajoguns or the Magajis. By 1000 AR, Zemia had ceased to exist - in its stead were two kingdoms, no longer led by emirs of the faith.
