Feather Skin

This somewhat cloth-like, yet leathery material is so light it is nearly bouyant in air, and only gently drifts to the ground, like a leaf falling off a tree. Among those that are a little more well off, clothing lined with feather skin is quite popular, as it boasts armor qualities of leather at very little weight. Depending on the fathers used, the clothing fitted with feather skin, can be made to suit a varriety of climates. Downs of a ice bird, for example produce cozy warm winter clothing, while the light feathers of a desert bird can be used to line a suit of armor can improve the temperature regulation and thus increase the comfort of the armor in hot climates.

Material Characteristics

Feather skin is often fuzzy and cloth-like. Depending on the feathers used in it's creation it can take on broad range of different appearences. However, feather skin can be dyed with little problems. The more resilient the used feather is, the less fuzzy the feather skin is going to be. Smaller feathers result in softer and finer feather skin, while larger feathers will lead to a more rough look and will be more coarse to the feel.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Feather skin is incredibly light, yet at the same time is astoundingly sturdy. Clothing lined or armor backed by feather skin reduces blunt impact, such as bashing, noticeably. Suprisingly feather skin is somewhat resistant against cuts, but against piercing attacks it doesn't give any significant protection. Water repelling feathers are often used when making padding material for heavy armor, such as suits of metal plate armor, because feather skin padding add a certain degree of bouyancy to the armor, aiding the wearer to stay a float should they fall in a body of water.
