Which of the Vampire Princes do you serve?

You are awakened, or disturbed from what you were doing by the rhythmic beat of a doleful drum. Following the first beats, the sound of many voices is heard in the distance, chanting words that you instictively recognize. Realization of what is about to happen hits you, and others too it would seem as many of those around you begin instinctively making their way to the source of the noise. Perhaps this is common where you come from, something you have grown accustomed to. Maybe you've only heard this once, years ago, little more than a child when the sights you witnessed burned into your memory. Either way, you are fully aware of what's about to happen.
A mortal, similar to yourself no doubt, is about to recieve The Gift1. You've seen The Gift being taken before, the Chosen drinking from a chalice filled with mixed blood. It is one of the highest honors a mortal can achieve, no matter their social class, and so you too begin walking towards the sounds of the drums. Your mind wanders as you travel. Do you consider The Gift being a Blessing, or a Curse?

The Gift is a Blessing

The Gift is possibly the greatest blessing that could be bestowed on a mortal like yourself. Most of the heroes that walk these lands will never be remembered, fading into obscurity with the passage of time. Those we remember are the ones that were willing to do what they needed to, evolving into something far greater than what the average person could become. Life is fleeting, the future filled with uncertainty and you would sacrifice yourself to change that. Even the lowliest Vampire Spawn holds far greater power than most mortals. The raw power that remains in the most degenerate, fallen, Vampires is worth every sacrifice you've made so far.

The Gift is a Curse

The Gift, if you can call it that, is a nothing more than a curse. It is an insult to the Natural Order established by the Divine. It is an abomination to the Divine, and to those who surround and support you. You're loyal to the Vampire that directly rules over you, but you can see that they're living empty, meaningless existances. Anyone can. There is no joy to be found in their eyes, pitiful creatures unable to feel the pleasures of the flesh, taste fresh wine, or find comfort from the things you are able to as they forever chase their ambitions. Even their accomplishments, no matter how great, seem to be nothing more than hollow victories. It is far better to strive for your own ideals using your own strength, and serve the gods rather than yourself.

1 The Gift is the common term used to describe the Vampiric condition. Being offered and given The Gift is a rare occurance.
