Deep somewhere within the bowels of Citradex Terminus, its location long lost to time, there is a device. A device that on its shoulders, rests the dwindling hope of what remains of the once great civilizations of Kralaerius Stratonexus. It is the last fading hope of the final bastion and its countless souls. It is the failing shield that guards what remains from the ghosts of mistakes made by a civilization long forgotten. This device is the Sanctum Apparatus. The last hope for a dying planet.

Utility

The Sanctum Apparatus was the last ditch effort of the most brilliant minds left to Kralærius Stratonexus. Its purpose was to hold the mage-smog that was rapidly taking over the world, slowly killing and warping all living things in its path. However, after century after century of holding the mage-smog at bay the device is believed to be slowly failing. Records show that year after year the habitable land of the city shrinks, growing the Fringe where only mutated creatures can inhabit. This has led to many scholars positing that the device was only meant to be temporary until the effects of the Citramagæ could be undone. If no one can locate the device soon it will only be a matter of time before the last light of civilization goes out.

Manufacturing

The Sanctum Apparatus is said to the new form of magic fusion, more powerful than any seen by the world beforehand. Next to nothing is known about the process except that it harnesses the most pure form of magic, mana. It is said that the raw magic, never before controllable on such a scale is what powers the device and allows it to keep the mage-smog at bay.

Inventor(s)

The names of the original inventors of the Sanctum Apparatus have been lost to the centuries if they ever were recorded. However, some legends say that the inventors committed suicide after creating the machine so that its location would never fall into the wrong hands.

Access & Availability

The Sanctum Apparatus is said to reside somewhere deep in the bowels of the city its location searched for by thousands of hope hunters, but none of the hundreds who try can find any trace of it. For all their efforts not one known soul has any inkling of where the device resides.

Complexity

The Sanctum Apparatus is said to be the most complex machine in history. The fact alone that it required the use of magic fusion powerful enough to hold the mage-smog at bay suggests that this might be true.
