Citradex Terminus
The final bastion.
Thick smog hangs low over the choked streets of Citradex Terminus while its sewers and tunnels teem with life. It is the last remaining bastion of hope for civilization. This megacity spans provinces and is the last known inhabitable land in the realm. In this overcrowded metropolis the rest of the known world is trapped. Surrounded by a poisonous magical smog externally, and internally eaten away by shadowy criminal organizations and corrupt and extortionate wealthy elite and government The Final City weathers on.
Citradex Terminus is a sprawling megacity. It is mostly made up of densely packed urban areas with massive administrative megastructures at its core spreading out to less densely packed areas on its fringes. Some of these megastructures include the water purification municipality, The Senate Hall, Bank Primus, and the Garrison Primus barracks. On its outermost fringes in the still barely inhabitable areas there are ruins and the dead or dying husks of trees. This is were groups of tribal raiders live known as the Untamed. Underneath the city lies many underground lakes, rivers caverns, sewers, and tunnels. These underground spaces are home to all kinds of life, harboring humanoids with no where else to go to plant life and deadly jungles.
Though most plants are not entirely extinct most of the city is devoid of plant life. In the area that the Untamed roam there are some plants and animals who were not entirely killed off just mutated into deadly shadows of there former selves. However, it is rare to find a healthy plant anywhere in the city. Though a grand garden near the center of the city contains a large collection of plants and trees most are still sickly and blanch. Some times a particular mutant from the fringes will venture further into settled lands during the night and prowl the streets stalking prey that is out to late. In the sewers and multitude of underground caverns and lakes strange plants and animals lurk. Entire freakish jungles replete with fruit and sustenance are favorite haunts of predatory monsters. Some of the more hospitable underjungles are even home to tribes of Untamed.
Bastion has access to many natural resources even though it is limited in space. In its underbelly Hunters and gatherers delve into the subterranean undergrowth to hunt the lurkers within and collect the strange fruit that make up a majority of the high end fruit and meat produce. However most of the food that people are forced to eat are green hard biscuits made of the algae that is also used to purify the water. The algae is grown in massive underground lakes and skimmed from the water to be compressed and baked. The majority of meat produce are fish and cave-eel caught in the caverns by tunnelfishers. Another common produce is an edible vine grown on wet tunnel walls and harvested by boat. The central source of water in the city is in the massive main lake cavern underneath Bastion City's core. This subterranean cistern is a gigantic lake filled with algae to filter water and many small boats wade across it to collect algae. Pipes and access tunnels connect it to the water purification municipality where hand pumps at the surface are available for public use. Many similar, smaller private pumping stations are also available through out the city for a fee. Little food or livestock is grown on the surface due to unfit conditions. Some tunnels are also home to mines that mostly produce coal, but also contain smaller amounts of precious metals.
