Lore: Hybrid
A Hybrid is the result of sexual reproduction between two or more species, one usually being human. In KPDH's case, the cross is usually between a "Demon" or something designated as one and a Human. Like with many hybrids, Demon/Human cross' such as Rumi, are typically much stronger than their biological parents.
This is because hybrids are often stronger than their parents due to what is known as hybrid vigor, or heterosis; a phenomenon in which during cross-breeding, combinations of genetically distinct parents produce offspring with enhanced biological functions, such as for produce, higher yield in crops or increased robustness in animals.
This typically occurs because hybrids inherit a wider, more diverse gene set, which often masks harmful recessive traits from either parent resulting in fewer recessive genetic issues, while also maximizing desirable genetic combinations, resulting in enhanced, robust phenotypes. For Demons and Humans in KPDH, Demons often tend to have the higher chance of having their genes be more dominant, resulting in a hybrid that oftentimes takes on more biological traits from their Demon side, then their Human.
Human Dominate
Demon Dominate
Neutral Dominate (unknown often defunct category)
As the names suggest, hybrids can take on the appearance of whatever dominant side of their genes take over.
A Hybrid with a Demon-dominant side resembles more a Demon in appearance when not masking.
A Hybrid with a Human-dominant side, takes on traits of their human side when not masking.
In cases like Rumi, this split between genes CAN often be subtle, such as with changes in hair-color and the potential for patterns. Rumi, who displays a perfect 50/50 split in her lineage, displays multi-traits coinciding with both her parent's; her mothers looks, but her fathers demonic-traits. This makes her Human-Dominate but also somewhat closer to Neutral-Dominate, since she doesn't take the appearance of one more then other. Neutral Dominate offspring are offspring that may alternate between the characteristics of both parents, or who won't show any side effect of their lineage until they reach a certain age, if they do at all.
However Hybrids of such vastness, may face extreme mental or physical instability due to clashing genetic traits. Because of the fact of her even 50/50 DNA split, Rumi is actually fortunate enough, not to have fallen victim to the potentially extreme instability that often plagues hybrids:
Sterility/Low Sex Drive.
Many hybrids struggle to feel normal emotions, which often leads to severe depression, extreme masochism, or total detachment from society.
Inability to crave certain food, but also potentially suffering from complete or partial Ageusia: the total loss of the sense of taste. Leads many to be unable to detect flavors like sweet, sour, salty, bitter or meaty (umami). May also come in the form of Dysgeusia, a distorted, unpleasant perception of taste.
Complications of Ageusia may also cause additional issues. Though relatively rare, true ageusia significantly diminishes the enjoyment of eating and can lead to a loss of appetite, poor nutrition, and psychological distress. It can also keep one from detecting when something is “off” in the food or drink they consume. This can lead to health problems like:
Losing weight without trying
Not getting enough nutrients
Consuming spoiled foods or drink, risking food poisoning
Experiencing mood changes and depression
Despite this, 3 sets of Hybrids can be produced.
