The Ruined Civilization of Golmara

Golmara was one of the earliest civilizations to rise after the reordering of the world. According to legend, it was founded by exiles from Akai who made the long journey north to learn sorcery from the Makar. These humans used their knowledge to conquer the local tribes and found a series of city states along the Balara river. These city states became centers of research into sorcery and soon they began raiding the surrounding peoples (and at times each other) for souls to use in their experiments.   Golmara fell to the giant kingdom of Surgosamuor in the second millennium. When the Empire of Eleyha arrived in the region, the Eleyhans considered the empty Golmaran citadels to be cursed places, and founded their cities far from the ruins. As such, the magically preserved remains of Golmara still jut up from the flat Itzaiyur Steppe.   Following the destruction of their civilization, the surviving Golmarans scattered. Some traveled west into the Crags of Narlingol and founded the Korat of Morgham, eventually falling under the sway of The White Circle. Others settled in the forest of Nobrakh to form the kingdom of the same name. The remainder took to wandering the world in small bands. Today, these wandering Golmarans often work as traders, peddlers, or craftspeople, but some bands also act as thieves or fences. Not surprisingly, Golmarans also have a reputation for sorcery and other forms of mysticism which may be frowned upon (or forbidden) in many regions.
