Godless Munavri

The Hasubite priestess was dragged to the street, the gauntleted fist of a Godless Knight hard in her hair. She was stupid, she knew, forgetting to shut the blinds before offering prayer that night. And on a night where the Godless Knights were on crusade, looking for the Hasubites orchestrating rebellion in the city of Myrny? What was she thinking. The Knight's grip made it hard to concentrate, but the Hasubite priestess tried to muster her courage and beseech her goddess for help. Plants around her swirled with magic, bending forward to grab the Godless Knight and help her escape, but before the spell could do anything effective the Godless Knight clenched his blade. The divine magic fizzled out around him, and he brought the blade up and over, burying it in the neck of the rebellious Hasubite. He'd not be in trouble for killing her, not after she had tried to cast a spell. "Stupid faithful", he whispered to the dying priestess, "can't even trust your gods to help you when you need them. It is obvious your magic is worth nothing- and let this be a lesson to your soul even in the afterlife." The fuller of his blade glowed with a faint red light, and he planted the blade squarely in the priestesses chest. She convulsed and then her life faded, lit by the pulsing light of the sword that was trapping her soul upon this realm, never to pass on.

Structure

Championing the ideals of freedom from religion, Godless Munavri's government avoids any theological organization. Led by a democratically elected senate- exclusively voted for by and elected from the nations population of humans and human-blooded individuals. With no singular leader, the Munavs claim to be enlightened and free from the shackles of any possible idolization of a leader or falling into line behind some deific force.

Public Agenda

Eliminating the foolish worshipers of gods from the lands of Munavri is the principle goal for the Munav government. However, they truly wish to show the whole of Korthos that the gods are merely pretenders- magic beings, sure, but not nearly as helpful or powerful as they pretend to be. The senate of Munavri promises that the suffering its citizens feel comes from faith in the gods, and it promises also that they shall be free of suffering should they cooperate. Driven by a need to prove the gods as fakes and the faithful as idiots, Godless Munavri pushes forwards towards freedom from religion.

Assets

Although containing a strong military, Godless Munavri is most well known- and feared, by many- for their Godless Knights and the Crowning Blades they wield. These blades are powerful magic items in and of themselves- when used in an execution of a worshiper of the gods they trap the soul of the victim inside the blade, not allowing the soul to be either regenerated or even to pass on to the realms of gods or outsiders. Not particularly navally minded, the Munav military is limited to land, and thus they focus their resources on their overwhelming land troops.

History

During the height of Tannica's theocratic empire, the northern counties of Munavri were home to lumberworks and mining operations. However, during High Priest Xander II's rule of Tannica in 899, while he directed a conquest to quell non-Shanaman faith in northern Tannica, the Tannic forces were met with surprising opposition at the hands of the native Munav rebellion. Led under the banner of The Godless, a faction organized to keep people free from the tyrant shackles of the Shanaman church, this rebellion led a surprisingly successful civil war against Tannica. Eventually, after the assassination of Xander II, the ruling church decided it was a better decision to allow the secession of Munavri. After the violent restructuring of Munavri's government, the development of the Senate united- in some way or another- the nation under a banner of atheism.
