Blackrock Wood

Blackrock wood from the Blackrock Tree is dense and brittle. It's weight is double to that of standard hardwood. It is often harvested for it's unique energy properties. Being similar in energy production to that of coal. Blackrock wood is very useful when a very hot fire is required. Such as a forge.   Harvesting Blackrock wood is slightly different that standard hardwood due to it's strength and brittle nature. A tool with a strong point, such as a pickaxe, or a strong hammer often are the best to use for this. With a strong swing it is fairly easy to break off large chunks of this wood. Cutting down a Blackrock Tree at it's base, it will often crumble into smaller pieces under it's own weight once it falls to the ground.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Often once harvested, this wood looks like large greyish-black shards of rock. While it is possible to harvest Blackrock wood and keep cylindrical it's shape intact, this is really only possible with smaller tree's as they are less likely to break into shards upon their own weight.

Physical & Chemical Properties

The unseal properties to blackrock wood are what make it so sought after. Average hardwood has an energy density, 1 to 2 coal. Requiring twice as much wood, to coal in weight to produce the same amount of energy. Blackrock wood is nearly 1 to 1 with coal. Burning much hotter, and for longer than standard hardwood.

History & Usage

Everyday use

The most common use of blackrock wood is in smelting, as it is a viable replacement for coal, or large amounts of wood.

Industrial Use

Blackrock wood is almost vital to anyone who desires to run a forge. In a proper forge, blackrock wood is capable of brining most metals to their boiling point.

Hazards

Blackrock wood when burned creates a heavy, dense, black smoke. This is hazardous to breathe, although it would take fairly large amounts before any asphyxiation took place. The main hazard is the visible evidence that this is being burned, this black smoke lingers, in the sky, spilling high and wide before it is dispersed. This is a clear visual indicator to anyone within miles that has a view into the sky.
