Azirkrun the Acid-Shroud, one of Chemsaa's spawn, falls on Schruichterta with his clutch-mates, descending from the Stormvault Peaks to the west. Their acid and flame decimated watchposts and villages as they advanced.

Ving Tulgrim Goldmantle was away from the city when the drakes descended, along with much of his military might. Marshal Eursda Veinbreaker, a revered warrior-priest led a tiny contingent of four companies and a few militia to defend the Holdgate District against three days of constant aerial assault by the dragons and ground assault by their dragon-kin ground troops. On the third evening, all seemed lost until Dvaer sappers collapsed the leftmost approach tunnel under the Flame-Cleft Wall, an un-enclosed outer parapet, collapsing it as the dragonborn hordes began to scale it. Fifty defenders and a full detachment of the dragonborn died in the rubble.

The following morning, Azirkrun ordered the final assault. As he personally led his forces forth into the breach, a group of Forgecallers (battle-priests of Zhegarol) ignited the outer oil trenches with runes blessed in the name of the name of their god. Azirkrun's army burned, and the drake, himself was gravely wounded and enraged. He fled to the east, but was laid low by the returning Ving Tulgrim near Khagha
