Tulgrim Goldmantle

Ving Tulgrim of Clan Goldmantle (a.k.a. Stonecloak)

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Early Life

Born in 658 LE into the Goldwright Clan, one of the most respected artisan lineages in Schruichterta, Tulgrim was apprenticed from a young age in the intricate craft of gold filigree and ceremonial regalia. His works adorned the halls of the Temple District and the crowns of two prior Vings. Known for a calm demeanor and sharp intellect, Tulgrim was elevated to clan leadership by age 45 and gained a seat as a Loultpe in the Council of Masters at an age when most Dvaer are not even considered mature.

Rise to Power

When Ving Dramrun Bronzeknot died unexpectedly in 712 LE, a period of uncertainty followed. Tulgrim was nominated by consensus of the Council of Masters for his even temper, broad support across military and artisan clans, and his reputation for fiscal wisdom. He was confirmed at the Oath-Wrought Forge in 713 LE and crowned with the Iron Circlet of Grasped Flame.

The Siege of Blackwake Flame

In the most defining moment of his reign, Tulgrim was away in Spaf, negotiating the renewal of the alliance with the Geirdszæng. When Azirkrun the Ash-Maw descended upon Schruichterta, Tulgrim could not return in time to command the defense. The burden fell to Marshal Eursda Veinbreaker, whom Tulgrim had appointed only a year prior. Nonetheless, it was Tulgrim's army escort that brought down The Beast Who Fled the Forge, near Khaghā, as they were returning to Schruichterta.

Upon his return after the siege, Tulgrim declined to take credit for the defense, instead commissioning a memorial to the fallen and a gilded altar in the Temple of Zhegarol, where his family would later be interred. He also passed the Flame Decree, mandating that every Holdgate Marshal maintain flame trench stockpiles and rotate training drills through siege-response readiness.
