Azirkrun the Ash-Maw

Origins and Lineage

Azirkrun was born near the end of the Ascendancy of Dragons. He was the product of a rare and volatile union between Chemsaa - one of the most cunning and domineering red dragons (later one of the Tyrant Dragons) - and a reclusive black greatwyrm named R̈ansa, who ruled a marsh realm now lost to the Dragonblight. From the time of his hatching, he exhibited hybrid traits: immense bulk and tactical precision from his red lineage, fused with the corrosive breath and subterranean cunning of black dragons.

Role During the Ascendancy

In the last two centuries of the Ascendancy, his sire Chemsaa was viceroy over northeastern Tunsaccia, and Azirkrun was one of Chemsaa's five high lieutenants.

During the Dragonwars

After the Fall of Dragons, Azirkrun remained loyal to Chemsaa, gathering lesser dragons, dragonborn warbands, and drakefolk mercenaries into a clutch in the Stormvault Peaks. He became a semi-independent warlord, orchestrating raids both on his own and his sire's behalf against settlements in the Wusha Hills, including a failed assault on Khaghā prior in 698 LE.

Siege of Shruichterta (734 LE)

In the deep winter of 734 LE, Azirkrun launched what he believed would be a decisive blow to the Spou stronghold of Schruichterta. With three lesser wyrms and hundreds of elite dragonborn, he attempted to overrun the Holdgate District, only to be turned back by Marshal Eursda Veinbreaker’s defensive tactics, including the ignition of sacred oil trenches and the collapse of the Flame-Cleft Wall.

Death and Legacy

Wounded, enraged, and humiliated, Azirkrun fled eastward in a blazing retreat, destroying several minor waystations along the route. Near Khaghā, he was intercepted by the returning army of Ving Tulgrim Goldmantle, freshly arrived from Spaf. In a pitched battle in the fields that fed Khaghā,, Tulgrim’s forces brought Azirkrun down through a combination of divine channeling from Mortag’s clergy, hammer formations, and terrain manipulation using fault charges.

Azirkrun's body was ritually scorched and entombed, but rumors persist that one of his teeth or horn fragments was taken before burial and holds latent power.

Reputation and Cultural Memory

Among the Spou:

He is referred to with contempt as "Cracked Claw" or "The Beast Who Fled the Forge." His defeat is central to the Day of Flame, though his name is rarely invoked aloud - out of caution or superstition.

Among the dragons:

Azirkrun is reviled by chromatic dragons and other purists for his failure. He is whispered of by drakefolk war-priests as a spirit of wrath, sometimes invoked in defiant blood rituals far from civilized lands.
