Kako the Deep gives Novian Weimer the First Quill, giving his own blood as Ink.

The young scholar Novian Weimer learned that he was Borderless, and decided to use this ability to travel the world, talk to people, and learn their stories. Novian was incredibly fascinated with the lives of others, no matter how mundane it appeared. He believed that every person should be remembered in one way or another, and this caught the attention of Kako the Deep, the Divine of knowledge, lies, the lonely, and the abused.
During his journey, Novian fell victim to bandits who destroyed most of his work. Distraught, Novian considered returning home and ending his quest, but Kako appeared to him and produced a simple quill, pressing it into their own side to fill the quill with their blood. They offered it to Novian, and explained that this quill would produce the cleanest of documents and could never be destroyed. This became the First Quill.
