Republic of Lagos

Lying to the north of Sirom lies the Republic of Lagos, the largest nation in the known world. The nation is rich in military, political, and financial power due to its strong military-industrial complex which has allowed it to continue expansion into new territories. The Great Sea lines the northern border of Lagos, and the dark magic that covers it has prevented human cartographers from mapping it fully (though the sea and its straits are utilized for industrial operations).
Born out of the collapse of the Empire of Lindorei during the Lindorei Wars, the pro-democracy rebels that formed Lagos retained Lindorei's most strategic terrotories, cities, and industrial hubs in the North. Meanwhile Imperial loyalists escaped southward to pro-Empire The Kingdom of Tayos, which in modern day stands as the last whisper of the Empire of Lindorei. Lagos still maintains an icy relationship with the Kingdom of Tayos, though the two have found areas of cooperation. Founded on ideals of freedom and representation, Lagos maintains a Presidential Republic with a strong executive leader in its President that is chosen by elected representatives.
It's capital is the dense urban hub of Ciudad, far north into Lagos territory and directly on the edge of the Great Sea. One notable feature is the prominence of ancient pre-historic ruined buildings that emerge from the ground in several areas of the city. Normally found deep undergroud, Ciudad is one of the few surface areas where such ruins can be found. These large metal relics served as the foundation for a number of significant buildings that were built into them, such as City Hall. 
In 1697, the country banned slavery in its borders, freeing many elven slaves.  Controversally, many were herde towards the borders to live in the dark magic wastelands.
