The Ruins of Castle Nev

Spooktober 2022, Prompt 14: Ruin

The ruins of Castle Nev is a set of ruins where the former government buildings of Nevalon Kingdom stood in the city of Neva. Castle Nev was once home to four buildings, including a keep, a meeting hall, a courthouse, and a great hall. Since the newer Castle Nevala was constructed in 233 CE, the buildings of Castle Nev have stood vacant.

FIRE!!!

In 287 CE, a disastrous fire broke out in the keep, reducing it to nothing more than walls of charred stone and ashes. The fire spread to the other three buildings, all of which suffered similar fates. Thanks to having stood abandoned for so long, no lives were lost in the fire, although there were a few minor injuries among the citizens of Neva who attempted to put out the blaze.

Theories of how the fire started range from the more sensible lightning to the absurd theory of ghosts. The true culprit of the blaze was never discovered.
