The Lore of Dragons

The Primarchs

The Primarch Dragons were Eremaeus the World Shaper (Quartz) who took the face of Arawyn and gave the earth and stone form, creating vast valleys and towering mountains. Yorindell, Primarch of the Sky, (Topaz) controlled the four winds of Arawyn and called forth her mastery of lightning to cause relentless thunderstorms all over the world. The deepest craters of the earth were flooded with rain, forming the many lakes and oceans of the world. From those very waters sprang forth Asinguard the Tempest, (Sapphire) who could manipulate the oceans he claimed as his home. He swam through the waters, freezing them with an arctic chill and created mountainous glaciers across their surfaces. Deep within the bowels of Mount Vulcanus, Delfure the Burning (Ruby) made his way into the world. Delfure held influence over the powers of fire. He erupted from the mouth of the volcano and flew over the frozen oceans, breathing down upon them with his fiery breath. His mighty waves of flame scorched at the frozen waters, causing the ice to melt and release enormous clouds of ash and poison.

The Wardens

Five more were to come after Arawyn's shaping. From out of the poisonous clouds emerged Setharion the Emerald who inhaled all of the poisonous elements from them, making that air breathable so that other less powerful life forms could survive. Valestrezi the Amber rose from the marshes and breathed life into the dirt and stone, bringing forth plant life that would live on for centuries to come. Aralune the Opal empowered the light of the sun and moon to allow growth for the flora and fauna. Terrestrasza the Amethyst purified the oceans, so that all living creatures could use it to sustain themselves. Finally, Izzuri the Sardonyx gave the world the power to absorb the essence of the dead, and restore it to new life.

The New Born Planet

The nine dragon guardians eventually mated with each other to create others that were like themselves. Within a few short decades they numbered well into the hundreds. They controlled spheres of influence. The Sapphires held influence over water and ice. They had the power to control the very oceans and dwelled mainly in the arctic glaciers to the north. The Rubies held influence over fire and heat. They had the power to activate volcanoes and control the flow of lava. The reds made their dwellings deep within the recesses of volcanic mountains. The Topazes held influence over the air and lightning. They had the power to call forth tornadoes and hurricanes. They made their homes on the tops of dense magical clouds that drifted high in the air. The Quartz had the powers to control the earth itself. They founded lairs in the deserts and buried deep in the earth itself. The Emeralds held influence over poisonous gasses. They had the power to inhale poisonous clouds that drifted the early world and prevented lesser life forms from forming. They lived atop the largest mountain peaks, leveled with the clouds. The Ambers held power to grow life from the planet, and made their homes in forests and jungles. The Opals held influence over the vitality of the living creatures of the world, and made their homes near where the sun and moon would always shine. The Amethysts made their homes within the deepest oceans, keeping them pure for all life. Last, the Sardonyx had the power to decay the dead, and restore power back into the world. They made their homes among the bogs and swamps. After the world was formed the dragons called out to their ancient allies the Fey to come to their new world and the royal court accepted the offer to share the new world, something new always amused the fey into frenzy like responses. The King’s seven children came with their respective parties and founded seven great cities in this world, their names long forgotten. The dragons lived harmoniously alongside the fey, caring for each other and for Arawyn. They knew very little of anger and nothing of war. It is rumored that they could have lived this way forever, and they may have well done so, if not for the mysterious arrival of two dragons that would change their kind forever.

The End of Innocence

Two new dragons appeared as mysteriously as the original four had so many eons ago. From the darkness of the night Tenebrous the Black arose and blanketed the world in the shadow of his wings. From the light of the sun Alabaster the White was formed and blinded all who stared too long at the inside folds of his wings. They held influence over the power of purity, be it Light or Dark. They both were fanatical with their beliefs. And they both wielded the enormous power of inner-star and outer-star magic. In their arrogance they refused to mate with any other dragons, deeming them inferior. They brought to the world aggression and conflict, for they were polar opposites and it showed in their interactions with each other. The two new dragons quickly grew to hate each other and it is from this hatred that the warring houses were formed. Alabaster and Tenebrous possessed such power that they could rule over the other dragons and so they did. As the two waged war on themselves, the other dragons were forced to take sides. The first two Dragon Houses were created; House Tenebrous and House Alabaster.

The Amassing of Power

During this time of war factions broke out and many more houses formed. Houses Delfure (Ruby), Asingard (Sapphire), Yorindell (Topaz), Eremaeus (Quartz), Setharion (Emerald), Valestreszi (Amber), Aralune (Opal), Terrastrasza (Amethyst), and Izzuri (Sardonyx) emerged in defiance of the original two houses. Both Alabaster and Tenebrous gathered hordes of treasure. This action confused many other dragons, though eventually it was revealed that the metals and magics within the treasures gave power to the owner. When this became known to all of Dragon Kind, there was a great race to hoard treasure for each house to make themselves more powerful. Each dragon was allowed their own horde, and those who had the greatest horde held the power to rule over the house. Because of this greedy amassing of power, war broke out between siblings. Fathers killed sons, sisters killed brothers, all to gain the wealth and power of the other's hoard to add to their own.

The Enigmatic Dragons

Tenebrous eventually gave into the pressures of procreation and mated with another, but the outcome was shocking and unexpected. He had mated with an Opal dragon namd Althirulune, who bore an enigmatic dragon with both Black and Silver Scales. The scales were so finely woven together that at a distance it appeared to shift from black to silver and back to black again. Tenebrous was once again shocked and astounded by what lay before him. This baby dragon was so strongly in control of magic that one could feel the arcane vibes pulsating around it. Tenebrous became afraid of what may come and attempted to kill the baby dragon, but it was impervious to all attempts. It truly was a god among dragons. Tenebrous finally gave in to the idea that he could try to use this dragon’s power to win his wars so long as he could maintain control over it. He named this strange new dragon Algowrath. Not long after, Alabaster heard the news of Tenebrous’ new progeny. He thought long and hard and after much consideration he felt that he had no choice but to attempt to create a dragon god of his own in order to survive. Alabaster courted a Sardonyx dragon named Sha’undantha. Their progeny was a dragon not unlike Algowrath, but this dragon sported scales of white and gold. Alabaster stared horrifically at his son. Alabaster could see as clear as day that it was not just a creature of pure power, but also something that he felt was never meant to be. Alabaster knew at that point that one day his son would consume him just as he knew Tenebrous’ son would some day destroy him. In Alabaster's great wisdom, he knew that they had both sealed their own fates by these actions and had put into motion something that could never be stopped. Tenebrous would soon die by the hand of the son he created, and the fact that the two would share the same fate did little to offset this moment of happiness in the White Dragon. Alabaster smiled as he announced the name of his progeny to the rest of the house; Palinthorn.

The Dragon Gods

Several Centuries After Man   Palinthorn and Algowrath grew to abnormal sizes, fully twice the size and mass of the largest living dragon. Alabaster was right in his predictions. Tenebrous was unable to control his son, who eventually destroyed him for the right to rule house Tenebrous. Alabaster lived to see this day and it was all he ever wanted in the beginning. With Tenebrous destroyed he could now die with and be at peace. With the Black Dragon gone from the world, Alabaster accepted his own fate and so shortly after Tenebrous' death, Palinthorn killed his father and took over house Alabaster. The two houses battled each other relentlessly, but would not strike out against the other nine houses unless directly provoked.   The Black and Whites reborn   Every child of Algowrath produced a black dragon and every child of Palinthorn produced a white one. They held powers similar to the original black and white dragons. From then on, the houses of Alabaster and Tenebrous became as prominent as the others.   Demon Wars   Soon a threat was seen in the utopia that the fey and dragon’s have made when evil creature’s known as demons entered this world, planning to claim it as their own. With great wisdom Algowrath presented himself to Palinthorn and offered his life in sacrifice as long as Palinthorn would be the father of all the dragons. Palinthorn accepted knowing the burden it would give him and drained his equals power from him, in doing so he became the Father of the Dragons and a true god in power. Palinthorn turned to his children and his alliance with the Fey and the demon wars began. The Dragons and Fey were victorious but this battle caught the eye of an even more powerful being.   Telligrim   Algowrath's youngest child Telligrim grew to become a rebellious dragon without honor. He shamed his father time and time again with his dishonorable actions and blatant blasphemy against their kind. After his father's sacrifice, he became even more unruly and rebellious. He tried desperately to cause problems in the utopia that was finally rebuilt after the centuries of war and conflict. Using magic he transformed into the shape of a human and successfully mated with a human. He returned to the Valley of the Dragons, a place no mortal had ever been allowed to set foot upon, with his twins and their mother, Ariana. Palinthorn became furious with the black dragon's actions. He banished Telligrim from the Valley and demanded that all the secrets of the dragons be stripped from both his and Ariana's minds. The Allfather took the child at Ariana's side to be killed, not knowing that Telligrim was hiding the other within his mouth. Telligrim took his wife and fled while the other dragons gave chase. Through the mountains, the valleys and the jungles of the world he fled, only keeping a short distance ahead of his pursuers. Through the arctic north and the blistering desert he flew using magics to protect his wife and his child from the assault of the other dragons. Fortunately he found a dark spot in the world and flew toward this shadowy cloud, obscuring him from all of the onlookers. The other dragons could not pierce the veil of darkness even with their keen senses and took him as dead when he did not emerge. He was never seen by dragon kind again.   Birth of the Sith   Palinthorn, looking at the child he had taken from Telligrim, could not bring himself to murder the half-dragon. He decided that child, Nimfear, instead was to be raised in the way of the dragons, learning their secrets, their fighting abilities and their magic. He studied everything to do with dragons, their history and lore. Because of his human form, he was taught by the fey as well. He would be a guardian of the world, as the dragons and fey knew their time was short. In time, Nimfear wished to see the outside world. The dragons knew that he would not be able to stay with them forever, and so they allowed him to venture off to be with other mortals to learn their ways. One day he returned to the Valley with a new wife and their children who shared his draconic lineage. This lineage was the beginning of the Sith. These children grew up, learning the lessons and secrets of the dragons and fey. When they were old enough, they too went out into the world, only to return with their own families and children. Each generation was trained as the previous and this tradition continued until a dark force made its way into the world.   The Meek shall inherit the Earth   The dark force was called the Morghazzi. Commonly called the Dark Riders, these dragon killers wrought terrible damage to magic and the world. The dragons became weaker as a result of this devastation and the Dark Riders took advantage of this, killing them and turning their own flesh and bone into weapons. Palinthorn called Dragon Kind back to the Valley where they took flight, leaving Arawyn and escaping the genocide being committed. The very same day the Prince of the fey called to his family and their children. They held a great feast in memory of the dragons that had been such loving and kind hosts. Without warning all of the fey vanished the next day and their seven great cities faded from this world.
The Eleven Great Houses
The eleven great houses of the Dragon Wars have since fallen to the dragoons and sith that remain on Arawyn. Through them the teachings and lineage of each are passed down. While the houses have no true leaders, they are intact as a matter of respect to their ancestors and only used as a denomination of who the dragoons are. Most dragoons will claim to be part of their respective household despite the fact the household does not exist as a location or structured organization. The houses exist only as an idea, a concept and a memory. A story to be told forever, so that the houses never truly die. The original teachings of Nimfear stated "That which is not forgotten can never truly be killed".
