Legend of Telligrim & Arianna

The Dragons where creatures of solitude, and dwelled in the secret valley of Celidorn. With the aid of their astral brethren the Fey, great arcane magic was used to hide the Valley.   Together the two immortal races shaped the world of the first age. When it was complete, they would venture forth from the great valley in numbers so vast they would turn the day into night. They would fly across forgotten seas and mountains that would pierce the heavens. They would gather riches that were thought to exist only in dreams and return to their valley to add to its spender.   It was on one of these such journeys that the young Dragon Teililgrim decided to break off from the group and fly on his own path. He was often prone to breaking the ways of his kind and many times reprimanded for his actions but that would never deter him. He desired to see the world they created and do with it what he will. It was then by chance he came across the green meadow of glimmermere, and there he saw the beautiful maiden Arianna singing and dancing under the stars. Terillgrim was so entranced by the young maiden that he took the form of a mortal man to be with her. At first, he startled her, but being a dragon, his charming way calmed her. All she had to do was to look just once into his eyes and then Arianna was his.   The two bonded intimately that night in glimmermere and he then decided to be with her for always. Nine moons had passed and then Arianna gave birth to twins. Terillgrim decided then to bring them back to the Valley of Celidorn to live in the Dragon paradise.   He let Arianna climb upon his back with one of the children in her arms, and the other he took and placed carefully in his mouth. When he returned, he was met by his brothers and sisters who wanted to know where he was these past nine moons, and who was this mortal women and child that he dared to bring to their secret home. The other dragons hadn’t noticed the one child in Telligrims mouth, and since the one child was hidden he did not respond to their questioning, for fear was now overcoming him for what they would do to his love and his children. His fear shifted into anger, so much that he struck one of his brothers who had approached Arianna.   He and Arianna where overcome by the dragons and then taken to the all father of dragons for judgment.   The Father of Dragons and his council said to Teililgrim that he broke two of their sacred laws. He mated with a mortal and he showed an intruder the way to their home. Many of the dragons called for their death, but the Father said no. He said he may stay with the woman but he would be stripped of his dragon blood and become mortal, then to be banished from the valley. They would have all of their memories stripped from them to protect the secret location of Celidorn. As for the child, he was innocent of any crimes and they would embrace him, for he did in fact carry within him the blood of dragons.   Arianna Cried out against this! Telligrim still said nothing for he was protecting what little he had left, the other child still cradled within his mouth. The dragons snatched from Arianna the one child and then she ran to Telligrim who threw her onto his back and he took flight!   The other Dragons took chase. Telligrim’s wings where beating rapidly, straining for any possible increase in speed with his brother dragons not far behind. This chase of dragon flight would span beyond the borders of continent over the open seas. Nothing ever created could have prepared him for his first sight of what lay ahead. It appeared as a huge cloud on the horizon, then as he drew closer he realized that it was not a cloud cover but simple darkness, a billowing pulsing amorphous area of darkness, almost as if a section of night that had been left behind when day began. The seas themselves where a brilliant emerald green and clear enough to see fish hundreds of feet down. The waters actually seemed to glow with a phosphorous light that gave an eerie quality to an otherwise unfathomable scene. The green light from the oceans was the only discernible color in the land and this lighting effect only bathed the shoreline not the inland portion. Terillgrim had discovered the Isle of Evernight.   He flew into the night that cloaked himself and Arianna even from the eyes of dragons. Terillgrim and Arianna where never seen by the Dragons again.
