Klarington Everest Character in Knight Realms: Arawyn | World Anvil

Klarington Everest

Born as Gallion Everest several centuries prior, Klaringon faked his own death three times; each time re-inventing himself as a new person through the use of highly skilled Time Sorcery. His alignment is best described as complicated. He often does the right things for the wrong reasons. He appears to help those in desperate need, but almost always seems to have a hidden ulterior motive. He sees himself as a good man, but not everyone who knows him would agree. He may be best described as an incredibly flawed hero.   He lived an extraordinary life filled with extreme ups and downs. During his first life, he suffered a laps of judgement and committed a sin that would haunt him for eternity. He trapped a Valosian bishop in a painting out of jealousy; an act that cause his wife to throw herself from the tower of their estate. The truth of this situation was hidden, for he was the Kings loyal retainer and could not survive the scandal. Knowing full well his fate in the afterlife, he became terrified of death and used orange sorcery to cheat it over and over again. When each of the lives he lived reached a ripe old age, he would cast powerful magic on himself to rejuvenate his youth. Each time this was done he faked his death, and staged the sudden arrival of a young inheritor to replace him. His second life was Marienstadt Everest, his third Gabriel Everest, and his fourth and final Klarington Everest. Throughout all of these lives he served the Royal Family of Kormyre as their closest and most loyal advisor.   As Gabriel Everest he became powerful in white sorcery and ascended to the head of the order of the Ivory Tower. He brought the order to a place of extreme power, but when seemingly impossible odds faced them, all of the white sorcerers fled citing that it would be madness and suicide to stay. Alone, Gabriel descended the stairs of the tower and stepped outside of it. Using experimental sorcery that he had been practicing, he reduced the tower to the size of a thimble, picket it up, dropped it into the pockets of his white robe, and disappeared before the wild hordes of darkness crested over the hill. He had made a vow never to let the tower fall into the hands of evil and he intended to fulfill that promise. The Ivory Tower was never seen again.   While living as Klarington Everest he becomes Baron of Travance and several years later he was murdered by an assassin. The heroes of Travance rescued his soul from the Pits of Malyc. When he returns to life, he leaves Travance and falls in love with the Dark Queen of Evernight who is suffering from powerful amnesia and does not remember who she is. Klarington spends many years running with her to escape an organization of time guardians known as the Lorestri. Klarington used his powers to shatter all the laws of time in order to protect his wife, and the more he did this the more the Lorestri tried to kill them. They were stuck in a vicious circle that was constantly escalating, with no end in sight.   In a bold and desperate move Klarington tricked his friends, the heroes of Travance into helping him take the mantle of Time Reaver. When this happens Klarington gains supreme and absolute control over all of time and all of space, making him completly untouchable by the Lorestri. While this seems a victory at first, It turns out that being the Time Reaver is a curse; as time will never allow him to die as a result. He will watch his friends and loved ones pass away of old age and he will eventually struggle to remember them. He will also forget the woman he loved, whom he did this for, as time will claim her and eventually his memories of her. When the world is torn completely asunder and no other living beings exist he will be forced to live alone for eternity watching time pass, as to keep it alive...
