Karithac Beasts Myth in Knight Realms: Arawyn | World Anvil

Karithac Beasts

Their origin widely remains a mystery, though some have claimed that these creatures are what remains of the beings whose bones now reside in the "Valley of the Behemoths". Others said these creatures were on Arawyn since the Age of Fables. Whatever the case, the Karithac Beasts are said to be titanic monsters native to Arawyn who roam the world in various regions.   They were first discovered in depictions in murals, woven into stories about "bestial gods" who answered the prayers of their kin. These ancient murals are estimated to be as old as the Age of Fables, and so it is likely that these monsters were worshiped as early deities by the animal kingdoms that ruled in that time. In total, nine creatures were depicted along with their names and are as follows:

Hazirus

Legend of Hazirus is that it was the bringer of Summer. Its body generated a tremendous amount of heat and could melt all the snow and ice with its mere presence. Hazirus was said to grant wishes to those who could touch its scales.

Kulek'Ilan

Kulek'Ilan's legends tell that held power over the gale winds in the desert regions of the world and lived in the sands. In ancient myth, the stories have said that the great dunes of the desert were formed from Kulek'Ilan slithering across the land.

Izui Tuacl

Izui Tuacl is depicted as a four-winged creature. Its legends primarily speak of it as a bringer of change and the ever-present struggle or intertwining of opposing forces. This creature is still regarded in the folklore of the Toahcan people of Xithanthax, claiming that it was who created their deities, Ardensor and Asqulor.

Valdenovi

Few creatures in legend could ever boast to produce heat as intense as Hazirus, but Valdenovi could have been considered its equal in this regard. Legends tell of the massive centipede-like tunnel borer, who lived in the molten lava of the world's volcanoes, that had created the massive underground tunnel network that places such as the Deepholm now reside. Though plausible, there is no recorded proof of this.

Guriweketa

Among the most horrifying of the beasts, Guriweketa is likely the most. Legends say that this tentacled beast lies in the deepest places of the oceans, churning the waters and creating currents from her swimming alone. She is regarded as the mother of gargantuan creatures such as Archidemius.

Ormion

Ormian is best depicted by, and recognized in legend by, its crystalline scaled shell resembling an icy-frozen mountain. Where Hazirus was said to bring Summer, legends of Ormian suggest it was the bringer of Winter.

Tremedon

Tremedon is always written in legends to be a creature living deep in the ground, and in some cases, to live at the center of the world. Myths found from the Age of Fables have stated that when Tremedon wakes, Arawyn moves, and causes what we experience as earthquakes.

Voltyrax

Depicted as a massive flying creature wreathed in lightning, it is easy to surmise from myth that Voltyrax was a creator of storms. The legends of the beast claim that in the worst storms, it is the creatures booming calls that cause the echoing sound of thunder and its wrath that brings the gale force winds of tornadoes and hurricanes.

Gazryntua

Depicted as the most mountainous of the Karithac Beasts, the legends tell of a time when the rains caused a great flood and beast's worshipers called out to it for help weathering the calamity. The beast answered the prayer allowing its followers to rest on its back and rebuild their homes.
