Arani

The Arani are a group of astral beings who did not enter the world of Arawyn until after the Golden Age had begun. They were known for their prophetic visions of all things to come, as well as their cryptic ways of speaking. If an Arani were to ever speak plainly of a vision they saw, it would be fated to pass, and so when speaking to the mortal beings, they chose to act in mysterious and guiding ways, through questions and riddles.
This was not the only power that belonged to the Arani, they were powerful beings with knowledge of all things, but in particular their ability to change and restore the spirits of the dead was among their strongest. So fascinated with mortal life were the Arani, that when they would find particularly powerful souls with strong convictions, they would resurrect the spirit in another place with no past memories simply to watch them re-experience the world anew.
In time, the days when the Arani were destined to leave the world drew near. One who saw the coming of this moment refused their prophecies and the Arani's coming extinction. While the rest accepted their fate that they would give their lives to scribe the leylines that would allow the mortals to resurrect their fallen, he refused to deny the mortals the continued aid of their prophetic visions. Before the day came that the Arani would sacrifice their lives, they had all collected their greatest prophecies and scribed a book that would aid the mortal kind. Still, the one did not believe this to be enough and refused to sacrifice himself. For this he was imprisoned.
The Arani walked across the world and scribed the healing leylines into the world and Spirit Realm and bridging the two so that mortal kind could return from the dead. In doing so, they gave up their own lives and poured the remnants of their power afterward into an object called the Arduenna Stone.
It would not be for a great many centuries that the Arani, Devariatus, would be freed of his prison, alone as the last of his kind.
