The Klan Worm

The legend of a giant fiery beast that lurks at the center of the plane.

Summary

Ages ago when the world was still burning fire and magma a giant worm came out of the ground. It is said to have absorbed the fire and heat of the world and to have tunneled deep into the earth to protect the world's fire. It is said that the volcano called Mount Klan is the jaws of the Klan Worm and it erupts when the worm can no longer hold in the heat of the fire.

Historical Basis

None can know for sure whether it ever existed at all, is still alive, or is asleep. The volcano at Mount Klan has never erupted but many prophets have said that it will. None have been able to dig down to the center of the world to see if it really is there. Anyone who goes even remotely near it as to turn back as a result of the rapidly rising temperature as they dig deeper.

Spread

Many if not all peoples on the world know of the myth, but very few actually pretend to know where it is. The fire elves of the west deny its existence entirely but they still are aware that other "lesser" being believe in it fully.

Variations & Mutation

Some say it was a dragon instead of a worm that stole the fire. Even more say that the fire itself burned through the world into the center where it stayed. The myth has been redone so many time over the past thousand of years that it is hard to say which it correct and which is not, perhaps of them are correct, perhaps they all aren't, no one knows for sure.

Cultural Reception

Some fear the wrath of the Klan Worm and worship giving offering and servitude to it. It is unknown whether the worm even acknowledges these offerings or cares about them. The ones who worship it as a god of sorts claim that the The Garden of mount Klan is a reward for their obedience and servitude.

In Literature

Many books written by literary folk speak of the legend. Some even are logs or journals of those who attempt to discover it's true identity.

In Art

Many tapestries at the Center of Art and Learning depict it. Many depict it in stained glass and paintings aswell.
