History

In the southwest lies the breadbasket of the Kingdoms. Grenesse is known for is temperate, sometimes even warm climate, cider, beer, and excellent infrastructure. One of the largest provinces, Grenesse was established alongside Valmere following the War of the Faltering Flame. The providence has since served as the primary producer of food in the Kingdoms, with exports of Grenessian grain and produce finding their way well into the North Marches. This agricultural success stems primarily from the fact that over ninety-five percent of Grenesse is arable land and the most fertile in the entirety of Belia. The Beacons of Grenesse have also been modified to improve crop yields, at the cost of being more costly to live near. As a direct consequence, life in Grenesse tends to be very comfortable and pleasant, albeit shorter on average.
The rulers of Grenesse, House Gibeault, have been very keen on the mass implementation of a golem workforce, in the same vein as Norianne. The hope is to have constructs man the fields, freeing more of the large populace to move into more skilled labor. Golems are frequently imported by rail by Norianne, though the process has been slower since Norianne only had to have a handful of mining companies agree to make the switch, whereas Grenesse has thousands of independent farmers, not all of which can afford the costly investment a golem represents. Still, food production has steadily been increasing following the implementation of golems in the fields, and the trend has no sign of slowing.
Grenesse has been ruled over by House Gibeault since the foundation of the Kingdoms, having been given custodianship of a small county on the western fringes of Valmere after the official foundation of the Cieran Kingdoms in 9 of the Age of Flame. After the War of the Faltering Flame, House Gibeault was given custodianship of the newly created providence of Grenesse, which slowly began to blossom into the agricultural powerhouse it is today.

Demography and Population

Grenessians are widely believed to be some of the kindest and most hospitable people in the whole of Belia. Many work in the fields, though Grenesse is also well known for its flourishing orchards and world renowned breweries. The providence also has one of the fastest growing golem manufacturing sectors of any other territory. Many Grenessians also work in the hospitality industry, running the various inns and public houses that dot the countryside and allowing farmers and travelers alike to rest as they travel from city to city.
