Government

Mutegulch is ruled over by a Baron-Knight of the line of Steinborn. The current ruler is 15 and received the position with the death of his father. His mother is acting as seneschal until he can complete his knighthood. She and her son are better liked than her late husband. She has few laws, but they are strictly enforced. The only major complaint most citizens have is the high taxes, but most of that money is going into repairing the neglect of the last few Baron-Knights.

Defences

Thick walls set up against the side of a cliff make this city difficult to invade. It is rumored that there are also tunnels built into the cliff face itself to allow the inhabitants and the ruling family to escape in case of siege.

Industry & Trade

The main export of Mutegulch is metal goods, especially arms and armor. The mark of the armorer's guild is considered a mark of a quality weapon.    Strangely, for a city with so much metalwork, there are very few dwarves or gnomes. This is because of a law passed early in the cities history designed to limit the number of these races in the city. Any dwarf or gnome above the age of majority is required to pay a tax for each day they live in the city of 5 copper. They may pay ahead but are not allowed to stay beyond their date of payment.

Infrastructure

Unfortunately, for as well as the current rulers are seen, their are many improvements that are needed to bring Mutegulch up to the conditions of a modern imperial city. Open sewers still line the streets, numerous small smithies send soot into the air, and the water has long tasted of unidentifiable minerals.

Assets

Being a city of smiths, the city armory is well stocked with high-quality weapons and armor. This has partially been accomplished through a law that states that a smith may pay off up to half their taxes through donating materials to the city armory at full market value, though the donation is seen over by the Sergeant in charge.   Mutegulch's treasury, on the other hand, is currently running close to bankruptcy. This is because the city is in the middle of several projects to improve living conditions, including digging out an underground sewer and building a large smithy to try to consolidate the smoke put off by them to one side of town.
