Oliver Godfrey
Oliver Godfrey (25th January 1797 - 10th June 1852) was a native of Tyneham who reportedly worked as a carman (delivery driver) for the Beaufords company for more than 20 years.
He was a man of humble beginnings, initially working as a barman in a pub. In 1814, he moved to Chilstone where he took on work driving a horse and carriage from Chilstone Docks to Aldridge and Ashburn. He also whitnessed the erection of a Blenkinsop & Murray Locomotive that was used to work coal trains from Loughhead Colliery to Chilstone.
