Coleman, Bell & Co. LTD
Coleman, Bell & Co. LTD were a company formed in 1912 that specialised in the sale of scrap metal and the scrapping of machinery.
The firm was established in 1912 by partners Aaron Coleman and Emmett Bell when they purchased the area of land in Roxbury that would serve as their scrapyard. It wasn't until 1913 when the yard was opened and the first machines to be broken down first arrived, these were three ex - NWJR 48 Class 0-6-0s (№s 049, 052 & 053). Business picked up post World War 1 due to the large ammounts of ex - Railway Operating Division locomotives that had been damaged beyond a repairable state during the conflict with the yard working at full capacity between 01/1919 and 07/1920. The firm also operated a small fleet of small tank engines to operate as shunters, of these only one was ever a permanent resident being a Black, Hawthorn 0-4-0ST that is now operational on the Azalea Line.
