Armoured Locomotives
In 1910, the Railway Operating Division began ordering armoured locomotives in order to use them in armoured trains in the case of a war. The locomotives varied in style depending on which manufacturer they were ordered from. Between 1910 and 1915 over 60 locomotives were built for the purpose of being mobile warships. After the war 25 (unused) locomotives were put up for sale as government surplus. 5 were scrapped and the rest were retained by the ROD.
