Constantine II
Tsar Constantine II
Constantine II was the Tsar of Russia, and the son of Constantine I. The younger brother of Nicholas, he ascended to the role of Tsesarevich after his brother's exile.
A patron of the arts and sciences, Constantine became a symbol of the Russian Cultural Renaissance. He was well loved and respected by the Russian nobility for his family oriented lifestyle rather than a playboy as many other Grand Dukes of the time, as well as the people for his championship of reformations. The former garnered him support among the Russian elite during the coming conservative revolution, and the latter saw a swaft of volunteers to his regiment.
Constantine became a national hero when he led Russian troops on Campaign against his cousin Alexander's rebellion in the Ukrainian War in 1882. Though the campaign was ultimately stalled, Constantine was still subsequently praised for his capabilities as a military leader.
Constantine took up many of the responsibilities as Tsar following his father's stroke in 1889. Upon the death of his father in 1892, Constantine ascended to the throne of Russia. His reign saw further military modernization and reforms, as well as an arms race against Ukraine.
