The Third Red Wizard War: 1776-1780

Upon the ascension of Lich-Emperor Tellemos Phan in 1776, Much of Faerun was alarmed in the extreme wave of violence that sweeped over Thay: decades upon decades of reforms, progress, and prosperity were undone in a month as Tellemos wished to take the Empire back to its "Glory Days". Hundreds of Thousands of Refugees fled west to Cities like Calimport, Athkatla, Suzail and Baldur's Gate, While the nations Surrounding Thay went into a state of High Alert, fearing the worst. The worst would indeed come, with Legions of Thay Undead Hordes and the Emperor's own "Eternal Guard" March westwards and South of their borders. The Baldurian Commonwealth along with many former members of the Second Coalition reconvened in order to discuss their plan of action, which resulted in the formation of the Third Coalition. With the Genocide of the remaining living citizens of Thay, a state of Emergency was Declared by the Holy Foundation, not done since the 1690s when under siege from the Githyanki- High Princess Miathar sent delegates to the Coalition, the most significant of which being the General Staff of the Departments of Tactical Theology and Applied Force respectively.   The Wizard's Reach League, Aglarond, Thesk, Mulhorand, and the Great Dale would fall to Thay Occupation and viscious culling of local populations, though faced extremely stiff resistance. The Iron Lordship of Rashemen, alongside their allies in the Teardrop Republics and the Alliance of Free Crowns, would join the Third Coalition by the end of 1776. The Third Red Wizard War had begun.   At the dawning months of 1777, The Third Coalition had made it to the frontline; a combination of forces comprised of the Sword Coast nations, the Rashemen Axis, countless volunteers and mercenaries from Across Faerun, the Holy Foundation, and even smaller brigades from the continent of Zakhara. The Front stretched from the River of Swords in the occupied Mulhorand Empire all the way north, through the Altumbel Peninsula, to the Rashemen Border. Progress was slow, the countless of Thay Undead hordes pressing wave after wave against the technological and strategic superiority of the Coalition; neither side could make significant gains however, and as such the war developed into trench warfare along much of the frontlines. A few notable battles include the Liberation of Two Stars in Thesk, the Siege of Geldaneth of Mulhorand, and the failed beach landing at Cape Dragonfang.   1778 saw a major breakthrough in the summer, as Captain Arturo Coppermore Ceadda lead his MTF Squad, MTF Sanica-9 "Music to the Ears", through the occupied Forest of Lethyr on a Guerilla Warfare Campaign, successfully encircling hundreds of thousands of Thay foot soldiers, leading to the decimation of dozen of Thay Divisions. This resulted in the Northern Front being opened by the Coalition, allowing the frontline to rest at the Thesk Border and the Gorge of Gauros. Meanwhile in the Southern Front in Mulhorand, the start of a long liberation campaign for the Imperial Capital of Skuld had begun, a battle which would last for an entire year. Over a million dead on either side.   1779 Was the first true part of the war when the forces of Thay went on the defensive; after the eventual retreat from Skuld, they formed a defensive line along the Rauthgor, While the north fell back to the First Escarpment. Tenno Operative PD-5_17 had personally earned the Foundation Medal of Valour after personally capturing a high-ranking General of Thay, while Neverwinter Soldier Tylmalis Vavari sacrificed her own life to set off a large array of explosives, punching a hole through heavy defenses. The Third Coalition Convened late in the year during an array of successful offensives past the First Escarpment, over what the fate of Thay would be after victory. Multiple proposals were put forth, from a shared "resource zone" for collective mining and prospecting, while others wished to split the land between the neighbouring realms. However, a joint proposal from the Moonshae, The Holy Foundation (Under their Front Company of the Shining City Protection Corporation) and multiple Priests of Lathander that the former pre-1776 borders of Thay would be reformed into a Lathander Clergy-led Republic, dedicated to reconstructing and renaming the cities and towns, acting as a more peaceful counterbalance in the region. This proposal, while controversial, eventually won out, and would be put into place after the war came to an end.   The Second Month of 1780 saw the breaking of Thay Forces, with the Greater City itself falling into extreme fighting, a combination of trench line after trench line, ruined urban streets and the Imperial District of Thay being converted into an impenetrable fortress. By the Summer however, the City fell with the deployment of the Holy Foundation's first Heavy Combat Airship, the HFS Vlaakith's End, which bombarded the City from Above. This lead the way into the Imperial District open, and after a brief week of fighting, the Lich-Emperor Tellemost Phan was captured and turned over to Foundation captivity, to which his fate was classified.   Though the war was over, scars were present all across Faerun, physically and mentally. The Baldurian Commonwealth had paid out veteran stipends to the soldiers that took part in the conflict under certain conditions, but many Tieflings who fought were denied compensation to a much higher degree than other races. Once this was discovered by the public, Riots consumed the streets of the Commonwealth, most commonly in Baldur's Gate itself. This escalated after a pro-Tiefling group "Zwei-Horn-Miliz", a Zemnian-speaking militia, bombed multiple government buildings in the city, causing a major clampdown on Tiefling groups in the City. After extensive discontent, The city would launch Operation: Closed Curtain, or as the public knows it;   The Night of Bloodshed.
