The Second Red Wizard War: 1629-1632
Following the Fall of the Thay Magocracy in 1621, The ruling government was replaced with the position of Lich-Emperor, under Malgos Ankara. House Ankara over the past few centuries have been rising through the ranks as prolific aquirers of slaves and undead soldiers, and it only makes sense that in the collapse of the Magocracy, House Ankara took complete control in the chaos.
However, all was not well. While the undead population remained totally loyal, the living did not. The following 8 years were marked with mass revolt and insurrections, known to the locals as the "Decade of Perseverance". Lich-Emperor Malgos Ankara, noting its virility and scale, required new sources of undead soldiers if he was to permanently put down the insurrectionist threat. So, in the Summer of 1629, The Thay Empire marched west with Divisions of Loyalist Soldiers, Occupying the nations of Aglarond, Thesk, and the Wizard's Reach League; a smaller force also marched north to Rashemen, but met fierce resistance, and withdrew.
This Outbreak of war drew the attention of West Faerun, wary of the Thay since the First Red Wizard War, and formed the Second Coalition in order to defend the occupied territories. Due to the Holy Foundation's obligations with internal affairs at this time, they had only sent a small contingent force in the form of CTF Broadsword-2: A notable member of which being Lance Corporal Cedric Ceadda, who would go on to lead the charge at the battle of the Umber Marshes, saving 89 men from death.
The War had ground to a half by 1631; Though Thay still occupied the eastern territories of the nations on the sea of fallen stars, the joining of the Mulhorand Empire into the Second Coalition led to stiff resistance and renewed offensives from Thay's Enemies. Occupying the Thay-Allied state of Thazalhar, Thay Forces mounted a defence in the city of Pyarados. Lasting 4 months, the city was flattened in the process, and 850,000 lives were lost. Once it had fallen to Coalition forces, the way laid open for a push into Thay Proper.
However at the start of 1632, progress ground to a halt. Threskel fell to a naval invasion by the Thay, opening up a new front, and the Rashemen were slowly falling back. The war would end by autumn however with the threat of pulling the Kingdom of Almorel Past the Sunrise Mountains. Not willing to fight a war of survival while surrounded by enemies, the Thay Empire settled for Peace.
In the treaty of Skuld, Thay would annex Threskel, Thazalhar and Surthay, but must in return disband its armed forces, Grant rights to its living population, and dismantle their forts along their western borders. Additionally, Severe economic sanctions and reparations to the victims of the war, citizens and nations alike, were paid out over a period of 30 years, leaving Thay's Coffers almost bare. Though the Thay had technically won their goal of expanding their territory and influence, being unable to project this power in any reasonable way lead to uproar in the Noble Houses, and saw the reign of House Ankara come to an end; Lich-Emperor Malgos was stripped of his undead power, and executed, never to return to undeath again. In his place, House Gios took charge; A moderately old family known for their art and culture. under the rule of Lich-Empress Liara Gios, Thay experienced a liberal golden age, coming up to the standards of technology, culture and magic of Western Faerun, of course with their own Undead spin on things.
This would all come to an end however, with the coup again Empress Liara and the removal of her powers, and the ascension of Lich-Emperor Tellemos Phan in 1776.
