The Hafayah War: 1810-Ongoing
During Diplomatic talks between the Holy Foundation and the Zakhara nations of Muluk, Qadib, the al-Kidr Republic and al-Zubna during the latter nations' unification into the North Zakharan Federation, Foundation diplomat Hanson Rayfold was assassinated by a member of a local Zhentarim group; an act of which was later discovered to be funded by a politician in thr al-Kidr Republic itself. After the Foundation demanded their arrest and surrender to their custody (an act the States unilaterally refused), the Holy Foundation detained the entire diplomatic procedure, holding them hostage until justice was delivered; This was ordered by Foundation General Maria Blumenmakler.
After a tense week of waiting, the member states of the North Zakharan Federation broke the defense of the diplomatic building, slaughtering the Foundation operatives with pure numbers alone, as well as capturing (and later executing) General Blumenmakler herself. Following this news, High Prince Arturo Ceadda declared a state of open war with North Zakhara, and a month later in Eleint 7, made landfall in the Capital City of Hafayah.
Though by Summer 1811 the Holy Foundation (Or at least to the public of Toril, the Shining City Corporation) had established a "Peace-Keeping Zone" across much of the al-Kidr River and surrounding lands, also occupying the City of Utaqa, and the vital fortress town of Simbaya further to the west. However, being outsiders to this land, are constantly outmanouvered by local insurgent and loyalist forces defending their homeland. The member states are bound by the Articles of the Veil signed in 1799 to keep the knowledge of the Holy Foundation secret, even in war, but even yet internationally protest the SCPS' involvement in what they deem an openly hostile action. the SCPS in return have petitioned the United Sword Coast States for manpower and funding, which by 1812 has resulted in 39% of the Peace-Keeping Force being made up of non-Foundation troops.
Arturo Ceadda has publically committed himself to the war so far, but behind the scenes has his doubts; the war has not gone in their favour at all, and Foundation doctrine of Scorched Earth Theory would only make the SCPS appear as the violent warmongers in this conflict. So, they bide their time, making small gains, while finding what collaborators they can, in order to make it known that no one gets away with killing Foundation Personnel.
But Zakhara won't go down without a fight.
