1781: The Night of Bloodshed and the Ballad of Bercasie Akmeros
After the fallout of the Third Red Wizard War, and the lack of proper help to Tiefling Veterans, public opinion between Tieflings and the rest of the population of the Baldurian Commonwealth degraded to such a point that a pro-Tiefling group "Zwei-Horn-Miliz", a Zemnian-speaking militia, bombed multiple government buildings in the city, causing a major clampdown on Tiefling groups in the City. After extensive discontent, The city would launch Operation: Closed Curtain, a joint operation between the Police, Military and Flaming Fist to enforce law in the City. This was, in the directive of the Operation, meant to be impartial, imposing complete martial law; but with increasing influence of the Clan Against the Forces of the Hells within government apparatus, many generals and officers turned a blind eye to anti-Tiefling violence, and some even propagated it.
This inevitably led to a violent pogrom against the Tiefling residents of the Commonwealth, particularly Baldur's Gate itself. through the night of Marpenoth 19 through to the morning of the 20th, thousands of Tieflings lost their lives, with many more tens of thousands fleeing or forming free communes within city blocks to defend their people. These communes, referred to afterwards as the "Redhorn Encampments", served as impromptu fortresses made up of emergency barricades and palisades, repelling many attacks from anti-Tiefling groups, police units and, in the cases of some, military incursion. The last of these Communes fell in Uktar 29.
The Holy Foundation has had a permanent presence in Baldur's Gate since their creation, and with the onset of city-wide violence, mobilized their local units under cover story 996 ("Shining City Protection Mandate") to mobilize their forces in key locations. Lieutenant-Captain Arturo Ceadda, veteran of the Third Red Wizard War, amongst others, guided smaller groups of Tieflings and other aligned groups both out of the city, and in aid of their defences of their homes. Arturo Ceadda is noted in his key alliance with minorly renown Gladiator Bercasie Akmeros, who with a small regiment of Foundation Responders and Tiefling Militia, broke through multiple lines of Clan Groups and Police Perimeters to save an approximated total of 200 Tiefling who, with a lack of opposing forces, were able to seize control of the underground metro to leave the city.
The Violence came to an end by 4:30 AM with the successful application of the HFS Vlaakith's End destroying and disabling many military outposts, and the personal intervention of Duke Malvin Ravenguard in a public address to cease all hostilities. Many high ranking officers were sacked or demoted, while Tiefling residents were granted personal protection from House Ravenguard Soldiers. As Operation: Closed Curtain was drafted by the Commonwealth Parliament and Prime Minister Yegui Vaxillia completely in secret from the Grand Duke, Parliament was disbanded and democracy suspended, with power centralised in the authority of Malvin.
Many of the Tieflings who fled with Arturo Ceadda and Bercasie Akmeros had signed up with the Holy Foundation in the aftermath, many of which following in their active practice of first-aid to form their own provisional site outside Baldur's Gate. In 1787 this site would become official, declared as Sitio Akmeros, in Bercasie's honour. Some other Tieflings instead fled underground, making contact with the city's Zhentarim Cell, led by a now former operative Armak, a Githzerai who led the Zhentarim until a soft-coup in 1785.
