1699-ONGOING: the Anti-Calus Insurrection

Mounting resistance against High Prince Calus was ever present; in every facet of Foundation Society. It was felt most however by the religious, who felt that Calus had abandoned much of the Pantheon's teachings, and used Mekhane and her Saints as a means to an end. This boiled over in 1699 where Calus' own son Ragvir attempted to assassinate his father, and when this failed, rallied the faithful and the hateful against Calus under the banner of the Icons of the True Foundation.   The Icons would seize dozens of Foundation sites, sparking a full on civil war which would rage on for more than a century. Ragvir would be barred from succession, leaving Calus' second son Perredor to be declared the true Heir; it is important to note that his youngest child, Miathar, openly protested this decision, believing Perredor too "soft" to ever be considered a High Prince and pushed for his twin brother Sheppard to rule instead. Though Ragvir was a unifying figure for the True Foundation, cracks were already beginning to show by 1701, and by the winter mass mutinies erupted within the Revolutionary Council:

The Pro-Human and fanatical Militant Elements in the Icons rebelled en-masse, taking multiple True Foundation sites with them, and formed the Allied Occult Coalition. They believed that Mekhane had forsaken them, and they should follow only the word of Saint Ceadda, turning their back on the former faithful. Over the time of their existence the AOI would brainwash and abduct human children into their cause, turning them into loyal soldiers and scientists to bring surface society to their knees, and turn humanoid against humanoid. The AOI were influential in spurring on the anti-Tiefling views of Baldur's Gate far enough to let it boil over into active Racial Violence, which then led to the fated Night of Bloodshed.

House Helbrecht, though initially supporting the Icons, brought their family and loyal and corrupt network of Doctors and Generals individuals in scientific departments into hiding, to continue their secretive work in peace. While they benefited from the isolation, they stay stuck in the past mindset of Mekhanite world views, obsessed with Saint Cenric's vision of a new "Terra" and even more fanatic with their Pro-Human views than even the Allied Occultists. They strive for a Toril reborn without the stain of the Fae or the Weave, and would do anything to reach this goal.

With the Icons of the True Foundation shattered, the Blades of Mekhane Society took control of what remained of the Revolutionary Council, forcing Ragvir Ceadda to sign their new constitution and become a puppet leader; the true birth of the Icons of Fuxi. The Blades of Mekhane had an obsessive Heresy surrounding the aspect of Chaos, Fuxi, and believed that the Greater Good would come from conflict and violence, not of espionage and a secretive world government. This infatuation with Fuxi would only grow over the decades. Even with the collapse of the Purity Council in 1792 and the death of High Herald Funestus Ceadda leading to Complete collapse of the command structure, those fanatically loyal to the cause would still fight against the Foundation under the name of the Fuxite Insurrection. They would fight until the last man, dedicated fanatically in their mission for true Faith, and their view of the Greater Good.

By 1706, the former Intelligence officers who defected from the HFSCP had had enough of the Blades' influence on the Icons, staging a violent coup to remove Ragvir and the newly created Purity Council. Though successful at first with bringing down the Council, Loyalist forces decided to destroy the Site they were held in as ransom, bringing an end to both the first Purity Council, and the Intelligence Officers. What was left of the Rebels fled, forming the Society of Shadows to plan their takeover long-term, building up a Toril-Wide information network to strike at both the Icons, and the Foundation. But as Degeneracy slipped into the Society's leadership, this would never come to be.   Even with the collapse of Fuxite leadership in 1792, they would still fight against the Foundation under the name of the Fuxite Insurrection, fighting until the last man, dedicated fanatically in their mission for true Faith.
