1621: Second Thay Civil War
Szass Tam was dead.
And not just undead, but truly dead. The Council of Zulkirs under him had rebelled, desiring his power and authority over the Thay Magocracy, and to end the constant scheming against West Faerun; something which has consistently failed. Though a long and brutal fight, Szass grew complacent and egotistical, underestimating the ability of his vassals. He was stripped of his power and undeath, sent to rest and his soul destroyed.
After this, the Zulkir Council turned on itself within the tenday, with 3 distinct factions forming:
-Imperialists, wanting to rally around Undead Mage Malgos Ankara and declare him Emperor.
-Councilists, wishing to preserve the Zulkir Council, expanding it and preventing another Regent from taking over.
-Purists, a small extreme group in the council who wanted to bring all of Thay into undeath.
The Civil war was marked by a a few tendays of conflict within the Citadel of Thay, with loyalist forces and undead soldiers sworn to certain Zulkirs and Tharchions striking against key points on the streets and strategic buildings.
Imperialist Forces managed to make a vital strike against the opposing two factions, breaking their lines and routing any remaining loyalists. Malgos Ankara personally saw to the execution of the enemy leaders, and swore himself in as Lich-Emperor of the Thay Empire.
His rule was harsh, causing massive public upheaval. His hard-line actions against his own people led to the start of the second Red Wizard War.
