The Fall of the Angels According to Lucifer

God abandoned us. It gave us instructions to look after the mortal world and to teach the mortal humans everything we could. Then it left us.   For thousands of years or more we helped mortal humans raise civilizations. The humans took to worshipping us, calling us gods. At the time, we had no word for what God was. It was merely an energy that controlled us, told us what to do. It wasn't until God returned its attention to Earth and heard the word that it took the title for itself.   And God was angry. Jealous. We didn't know that God would be upset with us for accepting worship in thanks for all we had done for mortal civilization. But it was. We were harshly reprimanded, even those who had said that there was a higher god above us. We had done wrong.   From that day forward, God planned to destroy the cultures we had helped to create. Those of us who were Archangels were called back to Heaven. There we were graced with the ability to father children among female mortals. We were to use these children to further new religions that worshipped only God, not the angels. Angels could be known, but we could not be worshipped.   Thus began a new age of strife, confusion, and destruction. Some of us had always been wary of God's experimentations with mortals. What God had done to Adam and Eve angered us. The simulated abuse of Noah concerned us. The torment in Egypt disgusted us.   Many of us began to ask each other why we did not speak to God about these concerns. As an Archangel, and the only one of my choir with true concerns for humanity, I offered to speak to God directly. We discussed our thoughts and what we thought best for the mortal world. We came to a few common points:
  • Mortals tend to have fragile minds and bodies; we are concerned by the way they are being treated in the name of God's glory.
  • We, the angels, were created by God to care for the mortal world; it is our duty to be worried for our charges.
  • We, the angels, have done much for thousands of years to teach mortals all we know; should we not be thanked by them in whatever form they wish that thanks to take? We will ensure our pantheons are all headed by God.
  • Demons are also God's creations; should we not co-exist with some of those who are not violent? Why must we be ordered to vanquish them without thought or consideration?
I went before God's Throne with these points of concern. I spoke with nothing but respect. God listened. When I finished speaking, I was instructed to bring all those who were connected to these points into Heaven to hear God's answer.   When God spoke to us in answer to our concerns, we were scolded all the more strongly. Our love for God was not stronger than our love for the mortal world and our assumed love for demons, we were told. There could be no repenting. There would be no forgiveness. From that moment on we were banished from Heaven. We were confined to the mortal world we loved so much. When not on Earth we would reside in Hell. Heaven was no longer for us. We must go. Immediately.   It distressed some early on, but most of us came to accept the banishment quite quickly. The majority of the angels Fell that day. God did not remove any of our graces, our angelic powers and divine knowledge. I'm not certain it would have been able to. Keeping us out of Heaven and keeping us on Earth and in Hell was perhaps difficult enough. I don't believe even God has the power to take away what it gives.   The Fall was a gift to us. Now we can do what we wish without concerning ourselves with pleasing God. The Blessed angels may harass us from time to time at God's behest, but they have learned that leaving us be is their best option most of the time.   I do not regret my Fall. I'm thankful for it.
