Mothlings

Mothlings have roamed this world for centuries, though no one knows when they first appeared or where they came from. For some they are a symbol of hope and security, while for others, they are a menace and a pest.   Mothlings have been observed swarming around kinfire flames and it is believed that they are attracted to kinfire's magical energy. Some say that mothlings can sense an oncoming Starless Night, which has led to a belief that they are harbingers of evil.   It is theorized that mothlings feed off of magical energy, which would explain their attraction to kinfire. They are also frequently spotted around significant landmarks such as religious temples, cemeteries, and battlefields. Like many insects, wild mothlings are easily frightened by loud noises and sudden movement. Some, however, have reportedly grown attached to individuals as pets and have acclimated to life among people.

Religious Significance

Followers of the Temple believe that mothlings have a direct connection to Ziva. They see them as beings from beyond sent as guides to those blessed by Ziva. Images of mothlings can be seen featured in the architecture of Din'Lux and other city-states in which Ziva has a large following. Their image is also frequently seen in jewelry, elven masks, and clothing.
