Kyra Goldenleaf

Kyra is a halfling rogue from the land of Arbhor. She was raised by a master criminal who taught her the ways of a thief. Kyra killed her father after he made her commit an unspeakable crime, causing her to run away to avoid the authorities and her father’s allies. She joins the Oaken Legion in order to escape those who pursue her and seek redemption for her crimes.

Backstory

Kyra Goldenleaf was but a few months old when she was found by Kovi Augfolium, a 35 year old local crime lord in Aurora, Arbhor. A former rogue himself, Kovi rose through the ranks to form his own Thieves Guild, The Dark Oaks. To the public he was a simple respectable tradesman, but to the undercity he was known as a conniving mastermind who demanded absolute loyalty. Once he realized Kyra was not a human child, he enlisted the help of a fellow rogue worked with every now and then, Liyli Foklyn. Liyli was a simple thief from the Arbhorian Neutral Zone, a gnome who was known for her stealth and dark past. Once they both realized that Kyra was in fact a halfling, Kovi decided to raise her as his secret weapon due to her unassuming height and nature. At age 5 Kyra was taught under Kovi how to steal, and by Liyli to sneak around. She had known since she was 8 that she was not Kovi’s natural daughter, that she was a halfling, due to the fact that Kovi had drunkenly spilled it to her one night. By age 13 she was under an official apprenticeship with Liyli, a mentor who she turned to often when life was too tough with Kovi. From 13 to 19, Kyra would make a name for herself for the force of her personality and the quickness of her hands, pulling off many heists by either distracting the target or breaking in the middle of night, a quick ghost barely seen. Due to the fact that her reputation had grown greatly among the Thieves of Aurora, Kovi brought her in to officially join the Dark Oaks. The price was to commit a job for Kovi, no questions asked.    Kyra had for years had problems with Kovi, her independence flourishing under Liyli’s eyes who saw Kyra as a mini me. For as much as Liyli had given Kyra independence and a home away from Kovi, she used Kyra just as much as Kovi did. Kyra, with doubts swirling in her head, did the job Kovi asked of her. She along with two initiate thiefs, Grof Dakan, a male human of 32 years, and Solra Fullfum, a female half elf of 23 years, were sent to collect a debt of a local orphanage owner. The meeting went poorly, with Grof killing the orphanage owner, leaving no debt to be collected. Fearful of Kovi and the Guilds wrath, Solra and Grof decided to burn down the evidence, to blame returning without the debt on a freak accident. Angry and afraid for her life, Kyra killed the two, but in the fight between the three of them, the fire had spread to the children’s quarters. Unable to do anything but watch, Kyra kneeled in despair as the orphanage burned down (40 souls were lost that day).

Afterwards Kyra was picked up by two grunts of the Dark Oaks and taken to Kovi. He took her back to her childhood home where he had trained her into a killer criminal, and Kyra lost it when he started berating her for what happened. She killed him, stabbing him in the throat with the first dagger he had ever given her. For hours she stayed in the house, staring in horror at what she did. She only snapped out of her trance when members of the Dark Oaks came by to check on Kovi, his top Liteaunats in fact (Selme and Syrus Siv, a brutal human sister-brother combo who worked as Kovi’s top enforcers, Brurth the Brutal, a half orc who served as Kovi’s executioner, Omin Belas, Kovi’s half elf ambassador to the other thief guilds, and Zavia Demisa, Kovi’s human lover and right hand.) Kyra barely escaped from the house, only grabbing the bare bones from it, leaving her dagger in Kovi’s throat. Hunted by the Dark Oaks, Kyra turned to Liyli Foklyn, who only offered her safe passage to the Arbhorian Neutral Zone, and her belongings from Liyli’s hideout. Kyra escaped barely, also hunted by the Arbhorian police for her involvement with the orphanage fire and past heists. She changed her name to Kyra Goldenleaf when she met a halfling named Valrin Humblewood in Grirkhul, who took her in for six months and taught her what he knew of halfling culture and the language, translating Kovi’s last name from common to halfling. Kyra would leave Valrin in the middle of a fall night after hearing rumors of people looking for a person of her past name and stature one night at the local tavern. To this day Kyra does not know what happened to the kind older halfling. Travelling by horseback to Zrald in the Arbhorian Neutral Zone, she joined the Oaken Legion, the local Arbhorian mercenary group to make a little money and maybe do a little good in the world. She would be a mercenary for a little over a year, and at age 21 while travelling to pick up some new recruits for the Oaken Legion, would meet Sylrona, a elven ranger who seemed to be more than what they seemed.
