The Tower of Shattered Souls Myth in Kima | World Anvil

The Tower of Shattered Souls

There's a tower on the northern peninsula of the Chema Expanse that is home to Mt. Vyšnak and the Foja forest, secluded past the Karnevris Mountains, where no Kiman has ever dared to venture. There's another structure there as well, though: The Tower of Shattered Souls. It wasn't built by Kimans, and is estimated to be pre-Collapse. Though this tower can be vaguely seen by incoming ships, no living soul has ever stepped foot near it. A thick layer of haze surrounds it at nearly all times, also obscuring treacherous rocks that have impaled numerous ships. Scholars are unsure if the tower is a remnant of the Ačkan civilization or something even older.   Because of this myth, many Kimans have come to believe that fojan creatures are actually twisted animals possessed by the spirits of those who didn't make it to the stars. Benevolent fae are forgotten and wandering souls, while hostile foja are the spirits of evildoers deemed unworthy by Qhulteous themself. The bodies of benevolent fae are burned after the useful parts have been taken in an attempt to bring the spirit back to Qhulteus' attention. Hostile fae are buried deep beneath the earth so that the evil spirits cannot escape and twist more creatures into evil.

Summary

It is said that the Tower of Shattered Souls is where lost spirits venture. Sometimes they're forgotten by Qhulteous, unable to find them to take them to the stars, usually because they didn't receive a proper burial or were wrongfully condemned. Others are evil souls, purposefully left to wander on the surface of Eiros, forever seeking something they cannot attain. They all come here, to the tower, where they mix with animals and become fae.
